XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — Mazda MX-6 1988-1992

The first-generation Mazda MX-6 (GD chassis, MA26 in this catalogue) is one of those late-eighties Japanese coupes that’s now firmly in the "preserve and improve" camp – a front-drive 2.2 with surprisingly tidy balance, let down by 35-year-old struts and a ride height that’s almost certainly sagged an inch since it left Hiroshima. This XYZ Racing Street Advanced coilover is the kit that brings the chassis back to life without turning a comfortable GT coupe into a kidney-punisher.

Street Advanced is the fast-road specification in the XYZ range: 30-way damping, full ride-height adjustment, and spring rates chosen for a car that still has to live with British B-roads. For a GD MX-6 used on the road with the occasional B-road blast or trackday, this is the spec to look at first.

What this coilover does for your 1988-1992 Mazda MX-6

The MX-6 GD’s chassis was set up soft from the factory and most surviving cars are now riding on tired OEM struts that pump up and down over expansion joints. Fitting the Street Advanced gives you back the body control the car was supposed to have, plus the ability to choose where it sits – lower for stance and a sharper turn-in, or sensible for ground clearance over speed bumps. The 30 clicks of damping adjustment let you run the car softer for a motorway run and firmer when you actually want to lean on it, and the pillowball top mounts at the front sharpen up steering response that’s almost always vague on a worn-out original setup. Coil-over construction also means you can swap springs later if you want a stiffer or softer rate without buying a whole new kit.

About the Street Advanced coilover

XYZ Racing’s Street Advanced sits in the road-biased end of the range, built around a monotube damper with a 30-position adjuster that controls bump and rebound together. The body is a thick-wall steel construction with a corrosion-resistant finish and threaded lower section, so ride height is set on the strut body rather than by preloading the spring – the correct way to do it, since spring preload stays consistent regardless of how low you go. Springs are matched to the car’s weight and intended fast-road use, and the front struts are topped with adjustable pillowball mounts that allow camber correction once the car is sitting at its new height. The kit ships fully assembled and bleed-tested, ready to bolt straight onto the GD platform.

Fitment for the Mazda MX-6 (1988-1992)

This kit is built specifically for the first-generation Mazda MX-6 on the GD chassis (MA26), covering model years 1988 through 1992. It replaces the OEM front struts and rear shock/spring assemblies as a complete four-corner package. Confirm your car is the pre-facelift GD before ordering – the 1993-onwards GE car uses a different platform and is not covered by this part number.
