XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Honda STREAM RN1/2/3/4/5 2000-2006

The first-generation Stream is an odd duck in the Honda back-catalogue: a low-slung six-seat MPV that borrowed its front subframe and K20A/D17A drivetrain hardware from the EP-era Civic, then sat on softly-sprung dampers tuned for school-run comfort. The result is a car that turns in willingly for its class but rolls heavily, runs out of body control over mid-corner ridges, and tramlines once the OEM struts pass 100,000 km. The XYZ Racing Top Sport coilover is the sensible upgrade for an RN-chassis owner who has started using the Stream as an enthusiast car rather than a people-mover.

This kit sits at the track-day-capable end of the street-spec range. Spring rates are lifted roughly 2 kg/mm over the OEM tune and damping is wound 30-50% firmer, which transforms how the long-wheelbase Stream responds to steering input without making the back row unliveable for passengers on the way home.

What this coilover does for your 2000-2006 Honda Stream Rn1/2/3/4/5

The Stream’s biggest dynamic weakness is vertical body movement – the tall greenhouse and 1.4-tonne kerb weight load the front struts hard under braking and the rear settles slowly over crests. The Top Sport’s stiffer spring and damping curve cuts the dive-and-squat cycle short, which gives you a flatter platform to brake into corners with and a quicker, more linear turn-in from the K20A-fed front axle. Ride height is fully adjustable so you can drop the centre of gravity without rubbing the inner arches, and the 30-way damping lets you soften things back off on the motorway. On rough B-roads the firmer set-up actually adds traction at the contact patch because the dampers control wheel-hop properly rather than letting the OEM springs oscillate. The car feels lighter, tighter, and considerably more honest about what the chassis is doing underneath you.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport is built around damping rates roughly 30-50% firmer than XYZ’s street setting, with spring rates raised by approximately 2 kg/mm to suit harder driving. The brief is to absorb the impact of uneven pavement and big single hits without bouncing the body, suppressing chassis shock so the tyres stay loaded through the bump rather than skipping across it. XYZ developed the spec from their Top Sport racing programme and pitched it specifically at track-day use and aggressive road driving, which is the bracket most Stream owners modifying the car will actually drive in. Construction is twin-tube with pillowball top mounts at the front and rubber-isolated mounts at the rear where geometry allows, ride height and damping are independently adjustable, and the dampers are rebuildable rather than throwaway. It is firmer than a comfort coilover and softer than a circuit-only kit – the right place to land for a car that has to do both jobs.
