XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Honda NSX NA1 1990-2005

The NA1 was Honda’s mid-engined answer to Maranello, and three decades on, the chassis still rewards the kind of input most modern supercars filter out. What it doesn’t reward is a damper that wasn’t built to deal with the NSX’s specific weight distribution, low polar moment, and the snap-to-oversteer reputation the early cars earned at the limit. The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover is built for owners running an NA1 at Cadwell, Anglesey, Spa or a Time Attack round and asking the suspension to settle a 1370kg mid-engined car through quick direction changes without the rear stepping out unannounced.

This is the most circuit-focused damper in the XYZ Racing range. The settings are derived from direct competition use in series including the WTCC, which is the relevant pedigree for an NSX NA1 customer who’s already past fast-road territory.

What this Racing Spec coilover does for your 1990-2005 Honda NSX NA1

On a stock-suspended NA1, the front end can wash wide at corner entry while the rear loads progressively – fine on a B-road, frustrating mid-corner at a track day when you want the nose to bite and the rear to follow predictably. The Racing Spec damper attacks both ends. Stiffer, race-derived spring rates control the mid-engined weight transfer that catches NA1 owners out under trail-braking, while the damping curves are tuned to keep both axles working in phase as the car loads and unloads through corner sequences. Ride height is fully adjustable, letting you drop the centre of gravity without compromising sump clearance over kerbs. Pre-load is set independently of ride height, so corner-weighting the NSX is straightforward once it’s on the scales. The headline benefit on a fast NA1 is consistency – the car behaves the same on lap one as lap eight, and the driver stops fighting the chassis and starts trusting it.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec is a track-purposed damper, not a road-biased coilover with stiffer springs bolted in. Every setting – spring rates, valving, droop, rebound character – has been derived from direct participation in racing events, including the WTCC. That development pathway matters because it means the damper has been signed off against the kind of repeat-stress conditions a 20-minute track session imposes, rather than against a marketing brief. For NSX owners running serious modifications – aggressive aero, slick tyres, factory-derived race build specs – XYZ Racing also offers a bespoke shock absorber programme: supply detail on your upgraded parts and the circuit you intend to run, and the damper can be specified to match. For most NA1 customers, the standard Racing Spec calibration is the right starting point and already a long way past anything the original Bilsteins could deliver.

Fitment for the Honda NSX NA1 (1990-2005)

This kit is specified for the NA1 chassis across its full 1990-2005 production span, covering both the early pop-up headlight cars and the later fixed-headlight facelift. The NSX is a low-volume mid-engined platform, so confirm any chassis or subframe modifications on your car before ordering, and check the configurator below for spring-rate and damping options.
