The NA1 NSX was built around tarmac – Senna-tuned chassis, mid-mounted C30A or C32B, aluminium monocoque tuned for circuit precision. Pointing one at a gravel stage is the kind of project that turns heads in the service park, and the suspension is where that project lives or dies. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is the part that makes the idea credible: long-stroke, inverted-tube damping designed to keep an aluminium-bodied mid-engined car loaded and turning when the surface underneath it is loose, sharp, or frozen.
This is not a fast-road kit pressed into rally service. It is XYZ Racing’s dedicated gravel-stage damper, with spring rates validated on rally cars rather than guessed at on a workbench. For an NA1 build heading to a stage rally, rallycross paddock, or a green-laned classic event, it answers the question gravel always asks first: how does the chassis behave when the ground stops being flat.
What this coilover does for your 1990-2005 Honda NSX NA1
Long-stroke damping is the headline. The NSX’s standard travel was tuned for circuit work, and the moment a wheel drops into a gravel rut the factory geometry runs out of room. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally extends usable stroke so the contact patch keeps loading the surface instead of skipping across it, which on a mid-engined car translates directly to throttle confidence out of slow corners. Inverted-tube construction puts the larger-diameter body at the top of the strut, where bending loads from kerbs, ruts and landing compressions are highest – exactly the loads a circuit coilover is not built to absorb.
Spring rates were developed and signed off by rally teams running this damper in competition, so the setup point is honest gravel calibration rather than a softened road tune. On an NA1, that means the front end stays planted under trail-braking into loose corners, and the rear stops snapping into oversteer every time the surface camber changes.
About the Gravel Rally coilover
XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road surface is the most aggressive variable in motorsport. The construction is built around an inverted-tube design chosen to handle the full range of stage surfaces – sandstone, snow and silt – without losing damping consistency as the strut works through its full stroke. Long-stroke geometry and long-spring fitment let the chassis absorb high-speed impacts from rough sections and stay composed through compressions that would coil-bind a circuit kit.
The spring rates are not a catalogue selection. Every rate setting in the Gravel Rally line has been tested by rally racing teams in live competition, which is the only environment that exposes whether a gravel damper will hold its tune through a flat-out stage. The result is a coilover engineered to bear the lateral G-loads of high-speed gravel cornering while still soaking up the vertical hits that follow a bad line into a crest.
Fitment for the Honda NSX NA1 (1990-2005)
This kit is built for the NA1 chassis through its full 1990 to 2005 production window, covering both pop-up and fixed-headlight cars and the C30A and later C32B drivetrain configurations. The fitment is chassis-specific, so geometry and strut-tower interfaces are sized for the NA1 monocoque rather than adapted from a generic platform.
