XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — Honda NSX NA1 1990-2005

The NA1 is a chassis nobody sane takes rallying – which is exactly why the few that do need a coilover engineered for the job rather than adapted to it. Honda’s all-aluminium mid-engined platform has a centre of gravity most rally cars would kill for, but the standard suspension geometry and travel were drawn up for Suzuka, not a Welsh forest stage in February. The XYZ Racing Pro Rally coilover answers that gap with a setup built for top-flight rally competition rather than fast-road compromise.

This is the professional-spec variant of XYZ’s rally programme, intended for an NA1 that has already been modified to accept it – bodyshell reinforcement, relocated mounting points, the works. If your NSX is a road car you take to the occasional gravel sprint, this is more coilover than you need. If you are building an NA1 for stage rally and the shell is open on the jig, this is the kit drawn up for that build.

What this coilover does for your 1990-2005 Honda NSX NA1

Long-travel rally damping transforms how the NA1’s mid-mounted C30A or C32B sits on a loose surface. The kit gives you the suspension stroke a transverse mid-engined platform desperately needs once the tarmac ends, controlling the unsprung mass over compressions and rebound steps that the OEM shocks were never asked to absorb. You get the body control to keep the chassis flat through high-speed direction changes on gravel, without the harsh top-out that aftermarket fast-road coilovers exhibit when you ask them to work over rally-stage inputs. On snow stages the longer stroke and softer initial valving help the tyre find grip rather than skipping across the surface. For an NA1 prepared for top-flight rally use, this is the suspension that makes the rest of the build viable.

About the Pro Rally coilover

The Pro Rally sits in XYZ’s gravel and snow rally programme, and it is offered in two distinct philosophies: an amateur-spec variant that bolts to the original chassis pickups, and this professional-spec variant which assumes the car body has already been modified to suit. The professional designation matters – it means mounting geometry, stroke and damper length are drawn up for a prepared bodyshell with relocated turrets and reinforced pickup points, rather than compromising the design to fit the factory NA1 layout. Construction reflects the duty cycle: rally suspension lives a harder life than circuit suspension, with bigger inputs at lower frequencies and far more debris hitting the damper body. The valving is set up for the long, slow movements of unsealed surface work rather than the high-frequency control a circuit damper prioritises. This is suspension built to a competition brief, not a price.

Fitment for the Honda NSX (1990-2005)

This kit fits the NA1 chassis NSX across the full 1990 to 2005 build window, covering the 3.0-litre C30A cars and through to the early NA2-adjacent late NA1s where applicable. As the professional-spec variant, it is sold on the assumption the bodyshell has been modified to suit – confirm your build stage before configuring.

Rally gravel/snow suspensions are very professional suspensions and they are designed into two types:

1. Be installed directly with the original chassis. (Amateur type)
2. Be installed after modifying the car body. (Professional type)
