XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi ECLIPSE 1995-2000

The second-generation Eclipse’s AWD GSX variant shares its 4G63T block with the Lancer Evo III and IV – a mechanical lineage that makes it a credible tarmac stage car rather than a road-going curiosity repurposed for competition. The same engine family, similar front-biased AWD layout, and a usefully stiff factory chassis give the GSX genuine stage credentials, provided the suspension is calibrated for the work.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically for sealed-stage use: a setup drawn directly from tarmac rally competition experience, designed to absorb the surface irregularities that break tyre contact and cost time.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Tarmac stages are rarely the smooth asphalt a road-test track represents. Surface breaks, mid-corner crests, and patches that arrive late under braking all test the same thing – whether the damper can absorb a sudden jolt without transmitting it into the body and unsettling the chassis. On the Eclipse, where the AWD system sends torque to whichever end has grip, a momentary loss of tyre contact at corner exit means traction going where you don’t want it. XYZ’s Tarmac Rally spec is calibrated to suppress that body movement effectively, keeping the tyres loaded against broken pavement and maintaining the vehicle stability that consistent corner exits demand. The FWD GS-T sees a similar benefit in keeping front-axle load consistent during trail braking, where the nose tends to skip over rough patches under standard damping.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

Every setting on the Tarmac Rally spec is sourced from XYZ Racing’s own competition use on sealed stages, not derived from road-going compromises applied to a stiffer spring. The damper is engineered to absorb the impact of uneven pavement and the jolt of significant surface irregularities – the kind of bump that on a standard setup launches the body and breaks traction at the critical moment of corner exit or late braking. By suppressing that shock transmission to the body, the unit maintains tyre contact and the traction that follows from it. It is a setup for cars that need to handle imperfect tarmac at pace, not for smoothing out a daily commute.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Eclipse (1995-2000)

This coilover is built for the Mitsubishi Eclipse (chassis MT14) across the full 1995-2000 model year span. That covers the complete second-generation lineup, encompassing both FWD and AWD drivetrain configurations. Confirm your variant before ordering – the GSX’s AWD dynamics and the GS-T’s front-drive balance call for different setup priorities on stage.
