XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Mitsubishi ECLIPSE 1995-2000

The 2G Eclipse’s front end tells the whole story. On the FWD GS and GS-T variants, the factory MacPherson strut calibration is set up soft – adequate for ordinary roads, but under pressure the chassis rolls through bends and the front axle pushes wide before grip arrives. Even the AWD GSX, with its more distributed traction, runs on dampers that leave body control vague enough to blunt confidence at a trackday.

These XYZ Racing Top Sport coilovers are built specifically for the Mitsubishi Eclipse 1995-2000 to address that factory compliance head-on. Running 30-50% more damping than a standard street setup alongside a 2kg/mm spring rate increase, they bring the chassis into a range where the Eclipse can be driven properly without demanding the ride quality of a competition car.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Raising the spring rate by 2kg/mm tightens the front-end roll compliance that makes the FWD Eclipse imprecise through sustained corners. The damping uplift – 30-50% above street levels – actively suppresses pitch and dive under braking and acceleration, which on a nose-heavy FWD platform has an immediate effect on how confidently the front axle finds its grip. For the AWD GSX, the extra body control pays off in the braking zone: the front axle loads up more predictably, and the chassis transitions from straight to cornering with less drama. Tyre contact improves across all variants too; keeping the contact patch in firmer engagement with uneven or broken pavement is where the Eclipse recovers grip it otherwise squanders.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport is XYZ Racing’s specification for occasional circuit use alongside daily road driving. Damping is set 30-50% above conventional street levels, and spring rates run 2kg/mm stiffer than standard road setups – enough to sharpen body control and reduce the unproductive chassis movement that erodes both driver confidence and consistency, without making the ride unacceptable on a long motorway run. The suspension geometry is calibrated to absorb the shock loading of large imperfections and broken tarmac, keeping the tyre contact patch stable rather than bouncing off the bump stops. XYZ Racing drew on their own competition programme when specifying these settings, so the calibration reflects what actually works on track surfaces rather than what looks good in a table.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Eclipse (1995-2000)

Built to the MT14 chassis specification, these coilovers cover the full second-generation Eclipse production run from 1995 to 2000. The fitment spans the complete engine and drivetrain range – GS, GS-T, and AWD GSX – all of which share the same front strut mounting geometry. Confirm wheel and tyre clearance with your specific trim before committing to a ride height drop significantly below standard.
