XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda MX-6 1992-1998

The GE-platform MX-6 sits in an awkward spot for anyone chasing a stage car: a wide, front-heavy V6 coupe with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear that was tuned for boulevard manners, not loose-surface stage pace. Stock dampers blow through their travel the first time you commit to a fast compression on a gravel section, and the body roll that owners tolerate on tarmac turns into outright understeer the moment grip drops. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Mazda MX-6 1992-1998 is built for exactly that brief – extending travel, surviving repeat impacts, and keeping the front tyres loaded on a surface that doesn’t reward hesitation.

This is the loose-surface specification in the XYZ Racing range, not a softened road kit and not a track damper with longer springs bolted on. It exists because tarmac rates and gravel rates are different problems with different damper curves.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1998 Mazda MX-6

Run on a gravel stage, the MX-6’s nose wants to wash wide on entry and pogo on exit – the V6 puts weight forward and the standard suspension can’t manage the transfer. The Gravel Rally damper trades outright pad-edge compliance for travel and recovery speed, so the front axle stays planted through compressions instead of skipping. Ride-height is adjustable independently of preload, which matters on this chassis – you can drop or lift the car to suit a fast hard-pack stage versus a rough forest section without changing the spring’s working window. The 30-way damping adjustment lets you bias the car towards rotation on tighter sections or stability on the fast flowing stuff. On a road home from service, the longer-travel build also takes the edge off mid-corner bumps that would normally upset a stripped-out MA27.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s purpose-spec damper for loose-surface stage use, built around a monotube body with extended stroke and rally-rated seals to cope with grit ingress and repeated full-bump events. Spring rates are pitched softer than the tarmac kits in the range to load the tyre into the surface, with damping tuned to control the resulting body movement rather than fight it. Pillowball top mounts give the chassis a direct steering connection through the front struts, which on a wide-tracked car like the MX-6 sharpens turn-in noticeably. The 30-click adjuster covers compression and rebound together, giving a usable range from a Tarmac-Lite service-road setting through to a properly soft forest spec. Construction is fully rebuildable, with replaceable shafts and seals – relevant on a car of this era, where you’re committing to long-term ownership rather than a two-season build.

Fitment for the Mazda MX-6 (1992-1998)

This kit fits the second-generation Mazda MX-6 on the GE chassis (factory code MA27) across the full 1992-1998 production run, covering both four-cylinder and KL-DE V6 cars. Front struts and rear damper bodies are matched to the MX-6’s MacPherson-front, multi-link-rear layout – confirm your specific trim against the configurator before checking out.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
