XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — Mazda MX-6 1992-1998

The GE-platform MX-6 is a front-drive coupe with a long bonnet, a transverse KL-ZE V6 hanging out over the front axle, and a suspension geometry that was tuned for early-90s grand-touring comfort rather than apex-hunting. That nose-heavy balance is exactly what the XYZ Racing Super Sport coilover is built to rein in: it gives you the spring rate and damping authority to stop the front end washing wide mid-corner without turning the car into a kart over British B-road expansion joints.

For a 1992-1998 MX-6 being used as a fast-road coupe or an occasional trackday car, this is the sensible step up from tired OE struts. You get genuine adjustability across ride height and damping, with a spring choice firm enough to load the front tyres properly under trail-braking but compliant enough to live with daily.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1998 Mazda MX-6

Drop the OE struts in and the first thing you feel is the front end stops floating. Body roll is contained, the nose stays flatter through long sweepers, and the front tyres get a much more consistent contact patch under cornering load – which is exactly what a transverse-V6 MX-6 has always needed. Ride height comes down to close the wheel-arch gap and lower the centre of gravity, but the threaded perches give you scope to set a usable rake rather than committing to a static slammed look. The 30-way damping adjustment lets you separate motorway settings from B-road settings without breaking out the spanners on the spring perches. Braking confidence improves alongside it; the car no longer dives onto its front bump-stops the moment you lean on the pedal.

About the Super Sport coilover

The Super Sport sits in the heart of the XYZ Racing range as a fast-road and light-track coilover, with a monotube damper body, pillowball top mounts on the strut corners where the chassis allows, and 30-way bump-and-rebound adjustment on a single combined knob. Construction is a hardened steel body with a corrosion-resistant finish – important for any car that’s going to see a British winter, never mind a 30-year-old Mazda. Spring rates are matched to the MX-6’s kerb weight and weight distribution rather than pulled off a generic shelf, which is the difference between a coilover that works on this chassis and one that just lowers it. Ride-height adjustment is on a separate lower locking collar so you can change height without altering preload, which keeps the damping behaviour predictable when you corner-weight the car.

Fitment for the Mazda MX-6 (1992-1998)

This kit is built for the GE-chassis Mazda MX-6, internal code MA27, across the full 1992 to 1998 production run. It covers both the four-cylinder and KL-ZE V6 cars on the standard front strut / rear multi-link layout. Confirm your chassis code against the VIN plate before ordering – late-run cars and grey-import variants occasionally differ.
