XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — Mazda MX-6 1992-1998

The GE-chassis MX-6 is one of those cars that rewards a proper suspension overhaul more than most. Mazda gave it a willing 2.5 KL-ZE V6 and a long, low GT coupe body, but the factory dampers were tuned for early-90s comfort and a US market that wanted a soft GT. Three decades on, original struts are tired, the front end floats over crests, and the rear gets light under trail-braking in a way that owners either drive around or fix properly.

The XYZ Racing Street Advanced coilover is the fix for fast-road MX-6 owners who want the car to actually rotate, sit flat through a B-road sequence, and stop diving into roundabouts. It is the road-biased kit in the XYZ range – firmer than OEM, comfortable enough to commute in, with the damping authority to make a 1992-1998 MX-6 feel like the GT coupe it always wanted to be.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1998 Mazda MX-6

Replacing the worn factory struts with a 30-way adjustable monotube transforms how the long-wheelbase MA27 chassis loads up under throttle and on the brakes. The Street Advanced damping range is set wide enough that you can run a soft road setting that absorbs broken Tarmac, then twist the knob harder for a quick blast or a track evening without re-shimming anything. Ride height drops on both axles via the lower spring perch, which means you tuck the wheel into the arch without binding the upper mount or hacking at the spring. The result is less body roll on turn-in, a flatter cornering platform that lets the front end actually bite, and a rear axle that stays planted on power instead of bobbing over expansion joints.

About the Street Advanced coilover

The Street Advanced sits on the road side of the XYZ Racing range, built around a 30-way damping adjuster, a monotube body, and pillowball top mounts where the chassis geometry allows. Spring rates are matched to the car’s weight and the road-going brief rather than circuit work, so the kit is firmer than OEM but stops short of the racing-spec rates that punish you on a long motorway run. Height is adjusted via the lower bracket, which keeps damper stroke independent of ride height – important on the MX-6 because shortening damper travel on a softly-sprung chassis is what gives you that crashing, used-up feeling over bumps. The shock body is a CNC-finished steel construction with corrosion treatment for UK weather, and the damper internals share their oil/valving architecture with the harder Super Sport and Circuit Master kits further up the range.

Fitment for the Mazda MX-6 (1992-1998)

This kit is specified for the second-generation Mazda MX-6 (MA27 chassis) covering the full 1992 to 1998 production run, including the 2.0 four-cylinder and 2.5 KL-ZE V6 variants. As with all XYZ Racing coilovers, the kit is built for the chassis rather than a single trim, so 4-cylinder and V6 owners share the same hardware.
