XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mazda MX-6 1992-1998

The GE-platform MX-6’s front-heavy V6 layout and soft factory damping have always been the limiting factor on a chassis that, underneath, shares more with the 626 GT than its coupe styling suggests. The Racing Spec coilover is the answer for owners who’ve outgrown lowering springs on tired OE struts and want the GE to actually use its rear end through a long, loaded corner.

This is the circuit-focused tier in the XYZ Racing range for the 1992-1998 Mazda MX-6, sitting above the Super Sport and Drift Spec in stiffness and intent. It is the right pick if your MX-6 sees track days, hillclimbs, or sprint events alongside fast-road use, and you want a single set of dampers that can take the abuse.

What this coilover does for your 1992-1998 Mazda MX-6

Spring rates and monotube damping are matched to the GE chassis’ weight distribution, so the front no longer collapses onto its bump stops under heavy braking into a second-gear corner. Ride height adjusts independently of preload, which matters on a 30-year-old car where corner weights drift as the shell ages and bushings give up. The 30-way damping range gives you a usable spread between a road setting that survives broken B-road tarmac and a track setting that controls the nose under trail braking. Camber-adjustable top mounts on the front struts let you reclaim front-end bite without resorting to camber bolts in the lower arm. The result is a car that turns in on the brakes instead of washing wide, and settles mid-corner rather than pogoing through the rear axle.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec is built around a 52mm monotube damper body with a separate spring perch and lower-mount ride-height adjustment, so changing ride height does not change spring preload. Damping is adjustable across 30 clicks via a single knob that controls both bump and rebound in a fixed ratio, which keeps setup decisions sane on a chassis most owners are tuning by feel rather than data logger. Spring rates are pitched higher than the Super Sport tier – the kit is engineered for circuit use first, with road comfort as a secondary consideration. Pillow-ball front upper mounts replace the factory rubber to sharpen steering response and remove the dead spot the OE bushings develop with age. Construction is hardened steel with a coated finish to handle UK salt and standing water.
