XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Ferrari PORTOFINO 2017-2026

The Portofino sits in an awkward place for a track tool: 1,664kg of folding-hardtop GT with a front-mid 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 hanging behind the front axle, and a factory damper map tuned around boulevard compliance rather than kerb-strike recovery. Lean on it at Brands Hatch and the standard magnetorheological setup runs out of body control long before the Michelins run out of grip – the nose dives, the rear squats, and mid-corner camber goes wherever the bushings let it.

This is where the XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover for the Ferrari Portofino earns its keep. It is a circuit-focused damper built around lessons XYZ took from running cars in WTCC, and it is intended for owners using their Portofino for serious track and time-attack work rather than weekend touring.

What this coilover does for your 2017-2026 Ferrari Portofino

Drop the Racing Spec under a Portofino and the first thing you notice is platform stability under braking from the back straight – the nose stops collapsing into the bumpstops, the front axle keeps geometry, and you can trail-brake to an apex without the chassis arguing about it. Through fast direction changes the GT’s mass stops feeling like it is sloshing on top of the suspension and starts feeling like it is connected to it. Damping settings are derived from race-event data, so the response curve is built for hot, repeated kerb-hits rather than first-lap comfort. Body-roll reduction also gives the front Michelins a flatter contact patch on turn-in, which is the single biggest unlock for a nose-heavy, front-mid-engined GT. Bump-thump is up; that is the trade.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is XYZ Racing’s circuit-only tier, and the settings inside the damper come from direct participation in race series including WTCC. It is not a fast-road kit with the comfort dialled out – it is a competition damper sold to the public, with valving choices that reflect what works on a stopwatch. XYZ also runs a bespoke programme on top of this: if your Portofino is running aggressive aero, semi-slicks, or factory-style A-class racing modifications, they will build custom shock absorbers around your car and your circuit. To get there you supply the parts list and the venue, and XYZ specs the damper accordingly. For a standard-spec Portofino on a UK track diet of Donington, Snetterton and Brands, the off-the-shelf Racing Spec is the right entry point.
