XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Honda CRV II 2002-2006

The CR-V II’s tall, softly-sprung crossover platform was never tuned for a rutted tarmac special stage. Honda built the 2002-2006 CR-V II’s suspension for a comfortable school run, and a hard compression at stage pace will send that stock damping straight into the bump stops long before the corner exit. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover exists for exactly that scenario: a damper calibrated to absorb the mid-corner ridge and the off-camber dip without unsettling the car’s line.

On a CR-V II, that means keeping the raised body composed through quick direction changes while the kit survives the abuse of full-throttle compressions between stages. This is a coilover built for drivers running a CR-V II on closed tarmac routes, not a fast-road comfort upgrade with a rally name attached to it.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2006 Honda CRV II

Factory dampers on the CR-V II are set up around ride comfort, which means the body rolls gently under load – fine for a car park, a liability at rally pace on a sealed stage. The Tarmac Rally coilover firms up that response, controlling body movement through direction changes so the tyre’s contact patch stays loaded through a compression instead of skipping across it. Because the valving comes from XYZ’s own Tarmac Rally programme, the damper absorbs the jolt of a sudden big bump – a patched road edge, a mid-stage ridge – without punching that hit straight into the chassis, and that suppressed shock is what keeps the tyre gripping rather than hopping. On the CR-V II the result is a car that turns in with less lean, holds its line over broken surfaces, and gets power down earlier out of a stage corner because the tyre never lost contact with the road in the first place.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally coilover is XYZ Racing’s damper for sealed-stage rally work, where the surface is smooth tarmac but rarely flat – patched sections, camber changes and sudden compressions are the norm, not the exception. Internally the valving is set to absorb a hard, sudden hit without the harsh secondary shock carrying into the body shell, so the chassis settles again quickly instead of pattering over the next section. That same tuning is what lifts tyre traction over broken surfaces: keeping the contact patch loaded through a bump does more for a stage time than raw spring rate ever will. XYZ builds the settings directly from its own Tarmac Rally racing programme, so the damping curve isn’t a generic fast-road compromise – it is the same base tune run on stage. The stated result is vehicle stability that lets a driver commit through a sequence of corners with a planted, predictable rear end rather than fighting body movement mid-corner.

Fitment for the Honda CRV II (2002-2006)

This kit is built for the second-generation Honda CR-V, chassis code II, covering the 2002 to 2006 model years. Confirm your CR-V II sits inside that build window before ordering, since suspension hard points changed at the generation breaks either side of it.
