XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CRV II 2002-2006

The second-generation Honda CRV was never built with loose-surface stages in mind – tall body, soft factory damping, real-time AWD that prefers grip over slip. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover takes that tall, family-shaped Honda and gives it the long-travel, high-G chassis control it needs when the road turns to sandstone, silt or snow.

This is a rally-specific damper, not a fast-road coilover with a different sticker. The inverted-tube layout, the long stroke, the long springs – they exist because a gravel stage is the most aggressive environment a shock absorber ever sees, and a CRV II thrown sideways across a stage road will punish anything less.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2006 Honda CRV II

The long stroke is the headline benefit on the CRV II. The factory chassis carries weight high and rebounds slowly over compressions; the Gravel Rally’s extended travel absorbs the chassis vibration from washboard surfaces without bottoming, and the matched long springs keep the wheel loaded when the car lands. Inverted-tube construction puts the larger working piston up top, so side-loads from kerbing a ditch or clipping a rut don’t translate into stiction or fade. On a CRV II you feel it most under hard direction change – the body still rolls, but it rolls into a controlled platform rather than a soft floor. Repeated high-speed impacts that would cook a road-spec damper get shrugged off, which is the difference between finishing a stage and parking it.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross, where road conditions are the most aggressive in motorsport – mixed sandstone, snow and silt, all in the same stage. The inverted-tube design is the structural answer to that brief: it carries side-loads that a conventional twin-tube cannot, and the long stroke and long spring package is dimensioned to absorb chassis vibration from a bouncy high-speed surface while still resisting the G-forces of a fast, committed turn-in. The spring rates are not chosen on a spreadsheet; XYZ states every rate is tested by their rally racing team in competition. For a CRV II being built as a stage or rallycross car, that means the baseline setup arrives with real loose-surface logic behind it rather than a guessed road-to-rally conversion.

Fitment for the Honda CRV II (2002-2006)

This kit is built for the second-generation CRV chassis, covering the 2002 to 2006 model years. Confirm your year and any subframe or arm modifications before ordering – rally builds frequently run non-standard geometry, and the configurator below covers the standard chassis spec.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
