XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda 626 1998-2002

The Mazda 626 GF generation is a softly-sprung family saloon that was never meant to see a stage, which is exactly why a proper gravel-spec coilover transforms the car. Stock damping runs out of travel within the first compression on a loose surface, and the front struts wash out long before the chassis itself gives up. Fit the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover and the MA19 finally has the wheel control to use its long wheelbase as an advantage rather than a liability.

This is the loose-surface specification in the XYZ range – longer stroke, softer base rates than the Tarmac kit, and damping valved to keep the tyre planted across washboard and ruts. For a 626 being prepped for clubman gravel events or rough-road rally use, it is the correct starting point.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2002 Mazda 626

Spring rates are dropped relative to the Tarmac and Circuit Master variants so the chassis can soak up surface impacts without the tyre skipping. Extended shock bodies give you the suspension travel that gravel demands, and the 30-way damping adjustment means you can run a softer compression setting for rough sections and firm things up for faster, smoother stages. Pillowball top mounts replace the rubber OEM bushes, which sharpens steering response noticeably on a car that has always felt vague off-centre. Ride height is adjustable through the lower bracket rather than spring preload, so corner weights stay honest as you change the stance.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s dedicated loose-surface coilover, built around a monotube damper with a separate gas chamber to keep oil aeration in check across long, hot stages. The 30-position knob adjusts both bump and rebound on a single sweep, which keeps service-park changes quick. Lower brackets are pillowball-mounted to the hub for stiffness, and the threaded sleeves are powder-coated for durability against stone strikes. Springs are matched to the chassis weight rather than copied from a generic catalogue rate. The damper internals are rebuildable in the UK rather than throwaway, which matters on a car that will see abuse.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
