XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Honda CIVIC TYPE-R FD2 (Modified Rear Integrated) 2007-2011

The FD2 Type-R’s independent rear end – one of the few JDM-spec Civic Type-Rs to trade the torsion beam for a proper multi-link rear, part of the "modified Rr Integrated" chassis change – is what makes a rally-specific coilover worth having on this car rather than a generic fast-road set. On a stage rather than a circuit, the surface changes metre to metre: smooth tarmac gives way to a broken edge, a compression, a lip where a farm track crosses the road. The K20A’s rev-happy nature rewards a chassis that stays settled through all of it.

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line specifically for that discipline, and it shows in how the FD2 kit is set up rather than in raw stiffness numbers alone.

What this coilover does for your 2007-2011 Honda CIVIC TYPE-R

Fitted to the FD2, this kit is calibrated to absorb the sudden, sharp-edged impacts that a sealed tarmac stage throws at a car – a pothole disguised by shadow, a ridge of displaced gravel dragged onto the road surface – without the front end deflecting off-line. Where a track-only setup would transmit that hit straight into the chassis, the damper here is tuned to soak up the jolt and keep the tyre loaded rather than skipping. That matters on the FD2’s multi-link rear in particular: keeping the contact patch planted through a mid-corner compression is what lets you carry speed into the next braking zone instead of backing off to protect the car. The result on this specific chassis is a rear axle that stays predictable when the road surface stops being predictable, which is the entire point of a rally-specific tune over a generic coilover.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is XYZ Racing’s damper for sealed-stage tarmac rally use, built around the demands of a car that has to survive big, sudden hits without the driver backing off. Internally it’s tuned to soak up the impact of uneven surfaces and sharp bumps, controlling body movement immediately after the hit so the tyre doesn’t unload and lose traction at the exact moment you need it most. That damping behaviour is drawn directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme – the settings on this kit aren’t a track configuration relabelled for rally, they’re the result of running the discipline itself. The stated aim is straightforward: keep the car stable enough that the driver can trust the handling through a stage rather than react to it, corner after corner.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC TYPE-R FD2 (Modified Rr Integrated) (2007-2011)

This kit is built for the Honda Civic Type-R FD2, chassis code HN23-1, across the 2007-2011 production run, specifically for cars with the modified rear-integrated suspension change that gave the FD2 its independent rear end. If you’re unsure whether your car falls on the pre- or post-change side of that FD2 revision, check your chassis plate or logbook against the HN23-1 code before ordering.
