XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — BMW 2 SERIES F87 M2 (excl. M2C) 2016-2021

The F87 M2 was M Division’s last small, light, rear-driven coupé before the G87 arrived with a wider track and a heavier kerb weight, and the chassis still rewards the right suspension more than almost anything else in the modern M catalogue. Out of the box it carries a usable amount of body roll and a front end that washes wide once you load the outside tyre on a hot lap – the platform is begging for stiffer rates and a proper damper.

The XYZ Racing Top Sport coilover targets exactly that gap: an F87 owner who wants a car that still works on a B-road commute on Monday but holds its line through Paddock Hill Bend on Saturday. Spring rates and damping have been pulled up from a street baseline so the M2 stops leaning on its outside front tyre, without turning the cabin into a hammer.

What this coilover does for your 2016-2021 Bmw 2 Series F87 M2 (excl. M2C)

Damping has been lifted 30 to 50 percent over a street setting and spring rates raised by roughly 2 kg/mm, which on the F87 chassis kills the dive the standard car shows under heavy braking into a hairpin and tightens the way the rear settles on corner exit. You get noticeably more front-tyre traction when you trail-brake the M2 in – the outside front stays planted instead of skating over mid-corner ridges. Lower the car onto the bump stops on a smooth circuit and the M2 finally rotates the way the short wheelbase suggests it should. On a typical UK B-road the firmer rates resist the secondary motion that the OEM passive setup carries over expansion joints, so the chassis stays composed across patched tarmac rather than re-loading the springs a second time. Stance drops cleanly over the standard 19-inch wheel without dragging the splitter on every supermarket entrance.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport sits in the XYZ range as the kit aimed squarely at occasional track-day use combined with daily driving, and the calibration reflects that brief. Damping is set 30 to 50 percent firmer than a street coilover and spring rates roughly 2 kg/mm higher, a deliberate jump that absorbs the impact of broken pavement while killing the wallow that softer street kits leave behind. Across larger compressions – kerbs, drainage covers, a fast direction change – the dampers control the shock through the body rather than letting it pass into the cabin, which is what keeps the contact patch loaded and the tyre working. Construction and valving come straight out of XYZ Racing’s circuit programme; the brand’s Top Sport settings are derived from their own race work and then dialled back to a level a road-registered car can live with. It is built for aggressive driving and track day use without crossing into a fully race-spec setup.
