XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — BMW 2 SERIES F87 M2 (excl. M2C) 2016-2021

The F87 M2 sits in a strange place: short wheelbase, wide track, an N55 (or S55 on the Competition) shoving real torque through a stubby rear end that wants to step out the moment you load the outside tyre mid-corner. On a stock setup it rolls more than its laptime suggests it should, and the bump-stops become part of the spring rate long before you reach the apex on a circuit like Donington or Cadwell. This is the chassis the Racing Spec is built for.

XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec coilover for the F87 M2 is a circuit-first damper – not a fast-road kit with stiffer springs, but a setup whose valving was developed through direct participation in WTCC-level competition. Spring rates, damper curves and ride heights are pitched at time-attack and track-day use, not at supermarket runs.

What this coilover does for your 2016-2021 Bmw 2 SERIES F87 M2 (excl. M2C)

Drop the M2 onto a Racing Spec setup and the first thing you feel is the front end actually loading rather than washing into understeer when you trail-brake to the apex. The shorter, controlled travel keeps the geometry inside its working window, so the rear axle stops behaving like it wants to overtake you on corner-exit throttle. Roll is cut hard, which lets the wide-track stance work as intended and gives the front tyres a fighting chance under braking from three-figure speeds. Ride height is adjustable so you can set rake to taste, and the damping is configurable to match the specific compound and circuit you’re running. Because the valving comes from race programmes rather than catalogue spreadsheets, the damper holds its character through a full session instead of fading by lap five.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec is a dedicated track damper, and XYZ are explicit that its settings have been derived from direct competition – WTCC included. Construction is built around sustained high-load circuit use rather than occasional B-road exuberance, with the damper curves tuned to control a chassis that is being driven at the edge of grip repeatedly rather than once. Crucially, the Racing Spec is one of the few coilovers in the catalogue offered with a custom-build pathway: if your F87 carries aggressive upgrades – aero, slicks, big brakes, a stripped interior, an LSD recalibration – XYZ will spec valving and rates around what you’ve actually built and where you intend to run it. You provide the upgrade list and the target circuit; they tailor the shock. That is closer to a race-team relationship than an off-the-shelf transaction, and it matters on a chassis as sensitive to corner weights as the short-wheelbase M2.

Fitment for the Bmw 2 SERIES F87 M2 (excl. M2C) (2016-2021)

Designed for the F87 M2 chassis code BM82, model years 2016 to 2021. This kit is for the standard M2 only – the M2 Competition (M2C) with the S55 engine is excluded and takes a different application.
