XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Nissan PRIMERA P11 (Rear Bolt Distance φ90) 1998-2002

The Primera P11’s multi-link rear end and torsionally stiff shell are part of why this Nissan saloon has found a second life on UK club rally stages rather than fading out as an ex-fleet family car. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover kit for the Nissan Primera P11 (1998-2002) replaces the factory struts and springs with a coilover set-up built specifically around sealed-stage tarmac competition, not fast-road or circuit driving.

This is suspension for the compression a car takes over a cattle grid at speed, a mid-corner crest, or a badly patched B-road surface mid-stage. Height, spring rate and damping are set up around a competition car covering unpredictable, ungroomed surfaces at pace, where the road underneath changes character corner to corner.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2002 Nissan Primera P11

Fit this kit and the P11 stops crashing through compressions the way the factory dampers allow – the shock body is kept under control rather than left to bang through its travel, which keeps the tyre loaded on the road surface instead of skipping across it. On the kind of broken, off-camber stage tarmac this saloon was never developed for from the factory, that shows up as usable grip exactly when it matters: under braking into a hairpin or on the power out of a compression. The Primera’s multi-link rear geometry responds well to the firmer control, keeping the rear axle settled over crests rather than letting it wallow, which matters on a car this size and weight where rear-end movement under load is otherwise noticeable. The net effect is a Primera that turns in and sits down over rough surfaces with far more composure than the standard suspension offers, holding that composure as the surface deteriorates rather than losing it.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally line is built around one job: absorbing the impact of rough, uneven stage surfaces without punching that shock straight into the chassis. The damper takes the jolt of a big compression or an unexpected bump rather than letting the body bounce off it, keeping the shock body under control so the tyre doesn’t lose contact with the road under load. That control is what feeds through as extra traction – the tyre stays loaded and working instead of skipping across the surface after every hit, which is what keeps the car stable and predictable through a stage rather than twitchy. The spring rates and valving in this kit come from XYZ’s own tarmac rally experience, not a fast-road base detuned for competition, so the settings reflect what has held up on stage rather than a theoretical spec sheet. On a car built for stage work rather than a smooth circuit, that is what keeps the Primera settled as conditions get worse, not better.

Fitment for the Nissan Primera P11 (1998-2002)

This kit is built for the Nissan Primera P11 (chassis code NI28) across the full 1998-2002 production run. It is specified for the Primera variant with a rear bolt distance of Φ90mm – confirm this measurement against your car’s rear shock mounts before ordering, as P11 Primeras left the factory with more than one rear bolt pattern over the model’s life.
