XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Nissan PRIMERA P11 (Rear Bolt Distance φ90) 1998-2002

The Primera P11’s multi-link rear axle was sophisticated enough for Nissan to campaign the shape in the BTCC through the late ’90s, and that same rear geometry is what makes a standard damper struggle once you start lapping seriously. Under trail-braking into a fast corner, the stock set-up lets the rear step wide before it settles, costing confidence exactly where a time-attack lap is won or lost. The Racing Spec coilover replaces that compromise with a damper tuned specifically for circuit work, built to keep the P11 planted from turn-in through exit.

For a car that’s already carrying period-correct upgrades – bigger brakes, a stiffer anti-roll bar, semi-slicks – this is the damper that ties the rest of the build together. It sits at the top of the XYZ Racing range for the Primera, built around repeat-lap consistency rather than a single quick lap.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2002 Nissan Primera P11

On track, the biggest change is how the P11’s nose responds to trail-braking. Firmer, circuit-tuned compression damping cuts the dive that unsettles the standard front struts, so you can carry brake pressure deeper into the corner without the front end pushing wide. At the rear, the multi-link axle stays loaded more evenly through direction changes, which reduces the step-out that catches drivers out on cold tyres or a damp track. Ride height adjusts independently of spring preload, so you can drop the centre of gravity for a session and put the car back to a usable setup afterwards. Damping settings are derived from real circuit data rather than a generic road-car calibration, which is the difference you feel on the tenth lap of a session rather than the first.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec line sits at the top of the coilover range, and the damping curves come directly from the team’s involvement in circuit racing, including WTCC competition. That link between competition data and production damper is unusual at this end of the market – most road-biased kits are tuned on a rig, not against lap times. For the Primera P11, the kit uses fully separate adjustment for ride height and damping force, aimed at drivers running the car in serious club racing or time-attack rather than fast-road use. Where a car has already been pushed further – a factory racing build or an A-class competition car with extensive supporting modifications – XYZ Racing can also produce a bespoke damper: send over the spec of your other upgrades and the circuit you’re running, and they’ll build shock absorbers around that specific combination rather than a shelf part.

Fitment for the Nissan Primera P11 (1998-2002)

This kit is specified for Primera P11 models built between 1998 and 2002 with a rear hub bolt distance of φ90mm – confirm this measurement against your car before ordering, since the P11 range used more than one rear bolt pattern across its production run. If your car falls inside this year range but doesn’t match the φ90 spec, you’ll need the alternative fitment listed for your hub pattern instead.
