XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan PRIMERA P11 (Rear Bolt Distance φ90) 1998-2002

Loose gravel doesn’t punish a chassis the way tarmac does – it punishes the dampers. The Primera P11’s front-wheel-drive layout already pushes weight onto the nose under braking and power, and on a rutted stage that same nose is what’s absorbing every compression event the surface throws at it. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built around that problem rather than around lap times.

This is the (Rr Bolt Distance φ90) variant of the P11 kit, specified for cars with the 90mm rear shock mounting spacing rather than the alternative P11 bolt pattern. Fitted correctly, it turns a road-spec Primera into something that can survive a full stage without the rear end packing out over the third big compression.

What this coilover kit brings to your 1998-2002 Nissan Primera P11

Gravel rounds every edge off a car’s composure – washboard sections shake the axles at high frequency while the odd hidden rut delivers a single huge hit, and a road-biased Primera P11 damper simply runs out of shaft travel dealing with both in the same 200 metres. The long-stroke design in this kit gives the rear axle and front struts somewhere to go when a compression exceeds what a standard-length damper can absorb, instead of topping or bottoming against its own limiters. Because the internals are set up for chassis vibration as much as single big hits, the car tracks straighter over washboard rather than skipping sideways with each ridge. The result on a Primera P11 built for gravel work is a car that keeps its wheels in contact with the surface for longer, which is what actually turns into grip when the compound underneath is loose stone rather than asphalt.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built this damper specifically around the demands of rally and rallycross gravel stages, which the brand rates as the roughest surface condition any of its coilover ranges has to survive. The inverted tube layout puts the larger-diameter tube uppermost, which keeps the working piston better protected from the sand, snow and silt that a gravel stage throws up at the shock body. Stroke length and spring length are both extended beyond road-going specification, giving the damper the travel to soak up chassis vibration from washboard sections as well as the compression from landing hard off a crest at speed. That combination is also what lets the kit carry the extreme lateral G-force a car generates turning in on loose surface without the spring coil-binding or the shock running out of usable travel mid-corner. Spring rate selection for this range isn’t a desk exercise – XYZ Racing states the rates fitted here were set by a rally racing team’s own testing rather than bench figures alone. For a Primera P11 pressed into gravel-stage duty, that’s a damper spec built around exactly the abuse the car is about to receive.

Fitment for the Nissan Primera P11 (1998-2002)

This kit is specified for the Nissan Primera P11, chassis code NI28, across the 1998 to 2002 production run. It is built specifically for the rear bolt distance φ90 variant of the P11 – check your car’s rear shock mounting spacing against this spec before ordering, as the P11 range was produced with more than one rear mounting pattern during this period.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
