XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Mazda RX7 FC3S 1985-1991

The FC3S sits in an awkward spot for suspension choices. It is light enough to reward stiff springs, old enough that the factory bushes and top mounts are almost certainly past their useful life, and rare enough now that whatever you bolt to it has to last. The XYZ Racing Circuit Master is built for the FC owner who has already accepted that the standard struts are not coming back from the dead and wants a circuit-capable replacement that still tolerates a B-road on the way home.

Circuit Master sits at the track-focused end of the XYZ range. Higher spring rates, firmer baseline damping, and the full external adjustment set – so an FC running semi-slicks on a trackday has somewhere to go, and a road-biased car can be wound back without changing hardware.

What this coilover does for your 1985-1991 Mazda RX7 FC3S

The FC’s chassis responds quickly to a proper coilover – more than most cars of its era – because the standard ride height and spring rates were set for a softer GT brief than the platform is actually capable of. Drop it onto the Circuit Master and the front end stops wallowing into corner entry; turn-in tightens because the geometry is finally being held where it was designed to live. The 36-step damping range is the part that matters day-to-day: soft enough at the low end to cope with broken tarmac, firm enough at the top to hold a 13B-powered FC flat through long, loaded corners. Ride-height adjustment via the lower bracket – rather than spring preload – means corner-weighting the car without losing useful suspension travel, which is the difference between a stanced FC and one that actually works.

About the Circuit Master coilover

Circuit Master is XYZ’s circuit-spec damper built around a 32mm monotube piston and pillowball top mounts, with separately adjustable rebound and compression on the same dial. The body is a one-piece machined housing rather than a screw-on collar design, so ride-height changes do not affect spring preload or stroke. Spring rates are set higher than the road-going Super Sport, with linear-rate springs chosen to keep damper response predictable under sustained load. Seals and shaft finishes are graded for repeated heat cycling, which is the failure point on cheaper coilovers used on track. The kit ships fully assembled per corner, ready to bolt to the FC’s strut mounts and lower control arm pickups.

Fitment for the Mazda RX7 FC3S (1985-1991)

This kit is built for the FC3S chassis – the second-generation RX7, covering both the early naturally aspirated 13B cars and the Turbo II from MY1987 onwards. The 1985-1991 span covers the full FC production run in the UK. No trim-specific variant is required; front struts and rear strut/shock assemblies are the same across the range.
