XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — Mazda RX7 FC3S 1985-1991

The FC3S sits in an awkward spot for suspension buyers. It is light, rear-drive, short-wheelbase, and the factory dampers gave up two decades ago – but it is also a 13B-powered chassis that responds badly to anything stiff and crude. This Drift Spec coilover is built for the FC owner who actually slides the car: long-stroke front struts, separate ride-height and preload adjustment, and damping that lets the rear axle settle mid-transition instead of skipping out from under you.

Drift Spec is not a fast-road kit pushed past its remit. The rear damping curve is tuned for the moment the car is already sideways and the driver is steering on throttle, which is when most FC coilovers go vague.

What this coilover does for your 1985-1991 Mazda RX7 FC3S

You get a usable ride height window without losing suspension travel – important on a car this short, where slamming it kills the geometry before it does anything for grip. The 30-way damping range covers everything from a quiet street setup to a committed practice-day spec, and the spring rates are matched to the FC’s light front end rather than borrowed wholesale from a heavier RX-8 platform. Front camber plates let you load the outside front tyre properly under steering angle, which is the single biggest handling gain on a stock-suspension FC. Rear shock length is set so the car can rotate on lift without the inside rear unloading completely.

About the Drift Spec coilover

Monotube construction front and rear, with 30 clicks of combined compression and rebound on one knob – simple to live with at an event when you are adjusting between sessions in gloves. Pillowball top mounts up front carry the camber plates; the rears use rubber to keep cabin noise honest on a car with no sound deadening to spare. Spring rates are selected for a drift-biased setup rather than a grip setup, which means slightly softer than you would run for circuit but stiffer than a fast-road kit. Ride height is set on the lower bracket so preload stays where you put it when you raise or lower the car. Shock bodies are zinc-plated rather than painted, which matters on a 35-year-old chassis that has already seen one or two UK winters.

Fitment for the Mazda RX7 FC3S (1985-1991)

Fits the FC3S chassis across the full 1985-1991 production run, covering Series 4 and Series 5 cars, naturally aspirated and turbo. The kit is designed around the FC’s MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear, with shock lengths matched to the factory mounting points. Confirm your specific trim in the configurator before ordering.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.
