XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda RX7 FC3S 1985-1991

The FC3S RX7 is a chassis that rewards a setup honest enough to cope with broken surfaces. Stock dampers gave up decades ago on most surviving cars, and the 13B’s weight sitting low and far back means the front end goes light over crests at exactly the moment you want it loaded. A gravel-spec coilover for the FC3S has to manage that pendulum, not fight it.

This is the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover built specifically for the 1985-1991 Mazda RX7 FC3S. It is set up for loose-surface stage work and the abuse that comes with it – long-travel, soft-but-controlled, and ready to soak up the kind of hits that destroy circuit-spec kit.

What this coilover does for your 1985-1991 Mazda RX7 FC3S

On a gravel stage the FC3S will pitch under braking and lift the inside rear on corner exit if the damping cannot keep up. The Gravel Rally coilover gives the car the travel it needs to keep all four tyres weighting the surface, which is where lap time on loose gets made or lost. You get bump compliance that lets the chassis absorb ruts and corrugations instead of skipping across them, and rebound control that stops the body lurching once the surface settles. The result is a 13B rotary platform that feels planted on rough roads, with predictable rotation when you back off the throttle into a slow corner. Spring rates and damping are matched to the FC3S’s weight distribution, so the car still turns in cleanly on tarmac transitions between stages.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series sits in XYZ Racing’s motorsport tier and is built around a long-stroke monotube damper with extended travel over the road and circuit ranges. Construction uses hardened steel bodies with a corrosion-resistant finish to survive stage debris, water crossings, and salt. Damping is adjustable so a co-driver or service crew can shift the car between high-speed forest stages and tighter, slower events without pulling the kit apart. Spring rates are deliberately softer than the Circuit Master range, because a stiff car on gravel is a slow car. The platform is height-adjustable to dial in ground clearance over the spring perch rather than by preloading the spring, which keeps the damper working in its intended stroke.

Fitment for the Mazda RX7 (1985-1991)

This kit is built for the FC3S generation Mazda RX7 across the full 1985 to 1991 production run. It fits the chassis with stock mounting points and is designed around the FC3S’s strut geometry front and live-axle rear arrangement. Confirm your chassis code reads FC3S before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
