XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Mazda RX7 FC3S 1985-1991

The FC3S sits awkwardly between the lightweight purity of the FB it replaced and the razor-sharp FD that followed, and its original suspension was tuned for a softer GT brief than most owners want from the car in 2026. Forty years on, the factory dampers are long gone, the rear semi-trailing arm geometry is still doing what it always did under power, and the 13B’s torque delivery rewards a chassis that stays planted rather than one that squats and waits. The XYZ Racing Top Sport coilover is built for FC owners running serious track days who need a circuit-biased setup that still survives the drive home.

Top Sport is XYZ’s track-day spec – stiffer baseline rates than Super Sport, 30-way damping adjustment on each corner, and pillowball top mounts where the chassis geometry allows. For a Series 4 or Series 5 FC being used in anger at Cadwell, Snetterton or the Anglesey GP loop, that means a kit you can actually tune across a weekend rather than one you bolt on and live with.

What this coilover does for your 1985-1991 Mazda RX7 FC3S

The 30-way damping range is the spec that matters most on an FC. The rear end of this car has always wanted firmer compression than the front to manage the semi-trailing arm squat under boost, and independent damping lets you set that without dragging the front into harshness on broken UK B-roads. Pillowball top mounts sharpen turn-in by removing the rubber compliance the factory built in for refinement reasons that no longer apply. Ride-height adjustment via the lower bracket – rather than spring preload – means you can drop the car for stance without compressing the spring into its working range. The result on a sorted FC is a front end that bites on trail-brake entry, a rear that takes throttle earlier on exit, and a body that stops the rolling-and-pitching motion the standard car develops as the rubber bushes age.

About the Top Sport coilover

Top Sport sits at the circuit end of the XYZ range, above Super Sport in spring rate and damping authority but below the full Racing Spec and Drift Spec kits. Construction is monotube with a large-bore piston, separate compression and rebound shim stacks, and a single 30-position adjuster on each unit that moves both rebound and low-speed compression together. Spring rates are matched to the chassis at the factory rather than offered as a generic baseline, and the springs themselves are progressive-wound on most fitments to keep low-speed compliance without losing peak control. Camber plates are included on strut-type corners where the FC’s MacPherson front allows it, giving genuine alignment range rather than the cosmetic adjustment some budget kits ship with.

Fitment for the Mazda RX7 FC3S (1985-1991)

Direct fitment for all FC3S chassis Series 4 and Series 5 cars across the full 1985-1991 production run, covering naturally aspirated and Turbo II variants and both coupe and convertible bodies. The kit replaces the factory front struts and rear shock/spring assemblies as a complete corner-by-corner swap with no chassis modification.

Pick your spring rates and any optional extras in the configurator below to build the kit to your FC’s spec.

By increasing 30~50% damping or 2kg/mm spring rate than street setting; it can absorb the impact of uneven pavement. It is able to absorb the jolt when across a big bumps, effectively suppress shock body and to increase tire’s traction. Vehicle stability makes you can experience perfect handling. All the settings from our Top Sport racing experience. It is suitable for track day and aggressive driving.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
