XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Mazda MX-3 1991-1997

The MA22 MX-3 is a featherweight front-driver that rewards a stiffer, lower platform more than almost anything else from the early-nineties Mazda stable. With the V6 K8 or the 1.6 four-pot ahead of the front axle, the standard setup leans on its outside front tyre under load and washes wide long before the chassis itself runs out of talent. The XYZ Racing Racing Spec coilover is the spec to fit when the goal is circuit lap times rather than a cruise to the coffee meet.

Racing Spec sits at the firmer end of the XYZ road-and-track ladder. For a 1991-1997 MX-3 that has either been kept honest or pulled out of a garage in 2026 for a proper track rebuild, this is the kit that lets the car finally use the front end the way the engineers hinted at.

What this coilover does for your 1991-1997 Mazda MX-3

Sprung properly, the MA22 stops scrubbing its nose and starts pivoting on throttle. Body roll drops sharply, which gives the outside front tyre a flatter contact patch through long corners – the single biggest gain a light front-driver of this era will feel. 30-way damping adjustment lets you separate compression behaviour over kerbs from rebound recovery on corner exit, so the car settles instead of skipping. Ride-height adjustment via the lower bracket (rather than spring preload) keeps spring travel intact when you drop it, which matters on a short-wheelbase chassis that will otherwise crash through its bump-stops. Pillowball top mounts sharpen turn-in response and remove the rubbery, vague feel the original strut-tops develop after three decades of UK weather.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is built around a 30-level adjustable monotube damper with a separated piston design, paired with linear-rate springs chosen for circuit duty rather than ride comfort. The construction uses XYZ’s heavier-wall shock body for sustained high-temperature work – important on a light car where the dampers see disproportionate work per lap. Spring rates are pitched harder than the Super Sport or Street Advanced lines in the same range, on the assumption that the car will run sticky tyres and see kerb strikes. Camber-adjustable pillowball top mounts replace the OEM rubber items, recovering negative camber the worn factory mounts have long since lost. Independent ride-height adjustment means corner-weighting is genuinely possible without sacrificing stroke.

Fitment for the Mazda MX-3 (1991-1997)

Application is the MA22-chassis Mazda MX-3 across the full 1991 to 1997 production run, covering both the 1.6 four-cylinder and the 1.8 K8 V6 variants. The kit is a four-corner replacement using the original strut mounting points. Confirm your chassis code stamped on the bulkhead matches MA22 before ordering.
