XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mazda MX-3 1991-1997

The MA22 MX-3 is a soft-sprung 90s coupe with a forgiving chassis that was never set up for stage pace – and that is exactly the problem the XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built to solve. Drop one of these into a 1991-1997 MX-3 and the front end stops floating mid-corner, the body roll that the factory dampers tolerate gets shut down, and the car finally points where the wheel asks it to.

Tarmac Rally spec sits between circuit and gravel: stiffer than a fast-road kit because sealed-surface stages punish anything woolly, but with enough damper travel to soak up the kerbs, crests, and patched tarmac that destroy a pure track setup. On a light, short-wheelbase coupe like the MX-3, that travel matters more than raw spring rate.

What this coilover does for your 1991-1997 Mazda MX-3

The 30-way bump-and-rebound adjustment lets you take a flat-handling base setup for the special stage on Saturday and back it off two or three clicks for the road drive home on Sunday. Ride height is fully adjustable on the lower mount so you keep suspension travel intact when you drop the car – critical on a chassis this short, where slamming it on the spring perch just runs you out of stroke. Pillowball top mounts at the front sharpen turn-in and remove the rubber-bushing vagueness that a 30-year-old MX-3 will have developed by now. Front camber plates give you the negative angle you need to load the outside front tyre under hard cornering without eating the inside edge on the commute.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

Tarmac Rally is XYZ Racing’s sealed-surface stage spec – monotube construction, larger-bore damper body for fade resistance over a long stage, and spring rates picked for the higher minimum speeds that tarmac events run compared to gravel. The damper internals are rebuildable and revalvable, which matters on a rally kit because shocks are consumables once you start running them in anger. Springs are linear-rate so the car loads predictably under trail-braking instead of going light at exactly the wrong moment. Top mounts are pillowball front, rubber rear on this fitment to keep some compliance over kerbs without giving up turn-in feel. The whole assembly is built to be serviced rather than binned at the first sign of a leak.

Fitment for the Mazda MX-3 (1991-1997)

This kit is built specifically for the MA22 chassis MX-3 across the full 1991-1997 production run, covering both the 1.6 four-cylinder and 1.8 K8 V6 variants. Front and rear assemblies are supplied as a complete four-corner set with the correct top-mount geometry for the MA22’s strut front and multilink rear.
