XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — Hyundai COUPE 1997-2001

The first-generation Hyundai Coupe – the RD platform sold here as the Coupe and badged Tiburon elsewhere – was a soft, front-driven cruiser from the factory, with a kerb weight under 1,200kg and a chassis that always felt like it was waiting for someone to take it seriously. Three decades on, that’s exactly what the surviving cars need: a proper damper that resolves the original car’s vague body control without punishing the daily commute.

The XYZ Racing Super Sport coilover for the Hyundai Coupe 1997-2001 is built for fast-road use with the occasional weekend track day in mind. 36-way damping adjustment and full ride-height range mean one set covers a Sunday B-road blast and a Monday motorway run on the same hardware.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2001 Hyundai Coupe

Drop the front of an RD Coupe properly and the nose stops floating over mid-corner crests – the geometry was never the problem, the OEM damping was. The Super Sport’s monotube construction controls rebound far better than the worn twin-tube struts most of these cars are still running on, which immediately tightens turn-in and kills the trailing-throttle wallow that defines a tired Coupe. 36 clicks of damping adjustment let you soften the rear for poor surfaces or stiffen the front for circuit work without touching spring rates. Ride-height adjustment is independent of preload, so you can sit the car closer to the arches without coil-binding the springs on a sharp bump. For an owner keeping a 25-year-old Coupe sharp, the gain is twofold: handling that finally matches the styling, and a damper that absorbs broken tarmac instead of crashing through it.

About the Super Sport coilover

The Super Sport is XYZ Racing’s fast-road-plus-track damper, sitting above the entry tier and engineered specifically for owners who want one set of coilovers to do two jobs. Construction is monotube with 36-way bump-and-rebound adjustment via a single knob at the top of each unit, and ride height is set independently of spring preload using the lower bracket. The damper is built to handle the bump frequencies of broken UK B-roads without the harshness you’d expect from a track-biased coilover – vendor testing positions it as a damper that has "eliminated discomfort resulted from bumps or rough roads" while still working at weekend race pace. Spring rates are matched to the chassis at the factory, so the kit arrives ready to bolt on rather than needing a re-spec for the car’s weight distribution. It is the damper for the owner who drives the car daily and tracks it occasionally, not the other way round.

Fitment for the Hyundai Coupe (1997-2001)

This kit is specified for the first-generation Hyundai Coupe, chassis code HY03, model years 1997 through 2001. The mounting hardware, strut length, and spring rates are matched to this generation only – the second-generation GK Coupe from 2002 onwards uses a different setup and requires its own kit.
