XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203 (Fr Welding) 1993-1999

The ST202/ST203 Celica was Toyota’s last front-drive coupe before the marque moved its rally ambitions over to the four-wheel-drive GT-Four, and it found a second life on stage with privateers running tarmac routes it was never built for at the factory. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203 (Fr Welding) is set up for exactly that environment: a sealed stage full of camber changes, mid-corner compressions and surface breaks that a road-biased spring rate can’t absorb without unsettling the car.

Where a fast-road coilover is tuned to smooth out potholes at a legal speed, this kit is calibrated for a car being driven at the limit over a surface that changes character every few hundred metres. It’s built to keep the ST202/ST203 planted through the compressions and crests that define a tarmac special stage, not to lower the ride height for a show stance.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1999 Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203 (Fr Welding)

On a car built for stage work, the first thing you notice is how the Tarmac Rally kit handles a surface that’s rarely flat. It absorbs the impact of broken tarmac and the bigger jolts from mid-stage bumps without sending that shock straight into the Celica’s bodyshell, which matters on a chassis this age where accumulated fatigue is already a factor. Keeping that shock out of the body also keeps the tyre loaded against the road for longer through a compression, which is where the extra traction actually comes from rather than the tyre compound alone. The result on the ST202/ST203 is a car that holds its line through a bumpy apex instead of skipping wide, and a driver who can commit to the same line stage after stage because the chassis reacts the same way each time. That consistency is what privateer rally builds on this platform are chasing, more than outright ride height or drop.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line around one specific brief: a sealed-surface stage rather than a circuit or a gravel special. The damping is set up to soak up the shock of broken pavement and larger compressions before that energy reaches the car’s structure, rather than simply stiffening everything up and hoping the chassis copes. Suppressing that shock at the damper, instead of letting it travel into the body, is also what keeps the tyre gripping through the stage instead of skating over each imperfection. The tuning behind this kit comes directly from XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme, so the compression and rebound settings reflect what’s actually needed to keep a car stable and predictable at rally pace on real roads, not a circuit set-up repurposed for stage work. For the ST202/ST203 Celica specifically, that means a kit built to cope with a chassis doing a very different job to the one it left the factory to do.

Fitment for the Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203 (Fr Welding) (1993-1999)

This kit is built for the TO20-chassis Toyota Celica ST202 and ST203, covering the full 1993 to 1999 production run. The "Fr Welding" designation means the front top mounts are a welded installation rather than a bolt-in item, so factor that into your fitting time or workshop booking when planning the install.
