XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203 (Fr Welding) 1993-1999

The Celica ST202 and ST203’s front-wheel-drive chassis was never built to survive a forestry stage without help, and the standard dampers give up long before the suspension travel does. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover replaces that geometry with an inverted-tube damper and a long-stroke, long-spring setup designed to keep the wheel in contact with the ground as the surface changes from hardpack to loose sandstone underneath it.

Fitted to the front strut towers via a welded-in top mount, hence the Fr Welding designation on this SKU, the kit is built for stage work: rallycross starts, gravel special stages, and the repeated bottoming-out that a tarmac-biased coilover simply cannot absorb without sending every hit straight into the chassis.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1999 Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203 (Fr Welding)

On a 1993-1999 Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203, that long-stroke inverted-tube design means the front axle can move through far more travel before it tops or bottoms out, so a compression over a hidden rut doesn’t translate into a bang through the steering wheel. The long spring works with that extra stroke to keep weight transfer progressive rather than sudden, which matters on a front-wheel-drive chassis that already has to manage understeer under power out of a loose hairpin. Because the spring rates were set by testing with a rally racing team rather than picked off a shelf, the front end loads up predictably when you turn in on gravel, silt or snow, instead of snapping into oversteer or washing wide. The result on the ST202/ST203 is a car that keeps its composure when the road surface itself is the biggest variable in the stage.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally coilover specifically around rally and rallycross use, where the road surface is by far the most punishing a damper will ever see. The inverted-tube layout was chosen because it copes better with the constant swings in available grip, sandstone one moment, silt or snow the next, than a conventional tube design manages. A longer stroke and a longer spring give the damper room to soak up chassis vibration and absorb the repeated, aggressive hits that come from driving flat-out over broken, bouncy ground, while still controlling the extreme cornering loads a stage car generates mid-corner. Every spring rate in the range was set through testing with a rally racing team rather than calculated on paper, so the damping and spring combination reflects what actually works when a car is being driven at the limit on loose surfaces rather than on a tarmac test track. This is a coilover built for a Toyota Celica that’s expected to leave the road entirely, repeatedly, and keep going.

Fitment for the Toyota CELICA ST202 ST203 (Fr Welding) (1993-1999)

This kit is specified for the Toyota Celica ST202 and ST203 (Fr Welding), chassis code TO20, covering the 1993 to 1999 model years. The front top mounts are welded in rather than bolted, so front-end fitting needs to account for that before the kit goes on the car.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
