Fitting all-wheel drive to the 996 generation gave Porsche something the rear-engined faithful never quite forgave: meaningful exit-traction gains at circuit pace, at the cost of additional front-axle mass and a balance that requires careful suspension calibration to keep the AWD system working with the chassis rather than across it. The XYZ Racing Circuit Master coilover treats the 996 Carrera 4 and 4S as the circuit car it is.
The Carrera 4S’s wider Turbo-derived bodyshell and the mass of the AWD drivetrain make the standard suspension a reasonable road compromise and a limiting factor under sustained track use. The Circuit Master’s 9720-way adjustment range – accessed via three independent knobs – gives circuit drivers the per-corner granularity to manage a rear-biased AWD 911 across a full session without the damper running out of meaningful response.
What this coilover does for your 1998-2001 Porsche 996 CARRERA-4/4S
The 996’s five-link rear axle responds to compression and rebound changes in a markedly different way from the MacPherson front, and a coilover that treats both ends identically will miss what this chassis needs on circuit. Three-knob adjustment lets you run firmer rear compression to control weight-transfer behaviour under hard trail-braking entry while preserving enough rear compliance to track cleanly through the 4S’s wide-track arc. Ride height adjustment also enables meaningful corner weighting – especially relevant on a 4WD car where height imbalance alters load distribution under acceleration. The small-oil-hole damper architecture sustains consistent fluid behaviour across the kind of high-amplitude circuit inputs the 996’s stiff kerbs and camber changes generate, where standard Porsche units progressively soften their response.
About the Circuit Master
The Circuit Master is XYZ Racing’s full competition coilover specification, developed and validated by XYZ’s own racing teams at international circuits and positioned alongside the brand’s Racing Spec, Drift Spec, and Tarmac Rally variants as part of the competition-oriented range. The engineering core is its 9720-way adjustment architecture, delivered through three dedicated control knobs covering low-speed compression, high-speed compression, and rebound independently – a resolution that lets you address the front-rear balance of a heavy AWD 911 with precision rather than approximation. The three-knob system uses a restricted small-oil-hole passage in its internal damping circuit; over large circuit kerbs, oil forced through this orifice produces a light mechanical note – a normal characteristic of the design operating at intended loads, not a sign of distress. This kit is calibrated for tarmac circuit surfaces, where the relevant inputs are kerb strikes and expansion joints, not uneven urban roads.
Fitment for the Porsche 996 CARRERA-4/4S (1998-2001)
This kit is listed under chassis code PO02, covering both the Carrera 4 and the wider-bodied Carrera 4S built between 1998 and 2001 – the first-generation water-cooled AWD 911 variants, pre-facelift. Confirm year and drivetrain variant against your VIN before ordering; fitment differs from the rear-wheel-drive 996 C2 and the later 996.2 facelift platform.

A circuit coilover for the 996 C4/4S that can actually be dialled to the AWD platform’s demands – configure yours below.
Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Pillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
AluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
