XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Ford TELSTAR 1993-1997

The GE-platform Ford Telstar is a rare base for a rally build in 2026, and that makes the suspension choice unforgiving – the GD/GE chassis was conceived for tarmac touring, and the moment you point it down a loose stage the standard struts run out of stroke long before the tyres run out of grip. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built for exactly that environment: sandstone, snow, silt, and the high-speed bouncy sections where a road-biased damper turns into a pogo stick.

For the 1993-1997 Telstar running gravel stages or rallycross, this is the inverted-tube, long-stroke kit that lets the front MacPherson struts and the rear multi-link actually work the surface instead of skipping over it.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1997 Ford Telstar

The inverted tube layout puts the larger-diameter body where the loads go in, which matters on a front-driven Telstar that carries its weight forward and uses the front struts to do most of the stage work. Long stroke means the damper still has travel left when you crest a compression at speed – the chassis can extend into a dip without topping out, and load back up without crashing through to the bump stops. The long springs that come with the kit are matched to that stroke, so the rear axle stays planted on corrugated surfaces rather than hopping off line under power. On a gravel stage, the practical feel is a Telstar that takes a rough entry without unloading a front wheel, then puts its torque down on exit instead of scrabbling.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s dedicated loose-surface damper, designed first for rally and rallycross rather than adapted from a tarmac kit. The inverted tube construction is the headline: it stiffens the strut against the lateral loads that gravel sends through the suspension on every stone strike, and it keeps the seals up out of the worst of the impact zone. Stroke length and spring length are both set deliberately long, because gravel rallying asks the chassis to absorb high-frequency vibration from corrugations, take repeated heavy hits from high-speed jumps and crests, and carry sustained cornering G-force on cambered, broken surfaces – often inside the same corner. Spring rates are not a back-of-envelope calculation either; every setting in the range has been validated by XYZ Racing’s rally teams on actual stages. The result is a kit that treats gravel as the primary use case rather than an afterthought.

Fitment for the Ford Telstar (1993-1997)

This kit is built for the GE-generation Ford Telstar, chassis code FO18, covering the 1993 through 1997 model years. Confirm your chassis code against the V5 or VIN plate before ordering, particularly on imports where Telstar variants overlap with Mazda 626 and Ford Probe running gear.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
