XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Ford TELSTAR 1993-1997

The GE-generation Ford Telstar is a curious thing to bring to a track day in 2026 – a Mazda 626-platform saloon that arrived in the UK via grey imports and Australian fleet refugees, with a kerb weight and front-strut layout that punishes anything softer than a proper circuit damper. The Circuit Master is the coilover XYZ Racing builds for that specific use case: sustained lap-time work, where the damper has to control body movement on its hundredth corner the same way it did on its first.

This is not the kit for a Telstar that lives on broken B-roads. It is the kit for a Telstar that lives at Castle Combe, Mallory, or whatever club circuit the owner keeps coming back to.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1997 Ford Telstar

A 90s saloon on tired OEM struts rolls early, dives long, and asks the front tyres to do work the rear should be sharing. The Circuit Master fixes that hierarchy. With 9720 distinct damping permutations available through its three-knob adjustment layout, you can separate low-speed body control from high-speed bump compliance and dial the rear in independently – so the Telstar’s nose stops washing wide mid-corner and the rear starts carrying its share of the lateral load.

On a sustained session, the benefit is consistency. The kit holds its damping curve as oil temperature climbs, which means lap fifteen feels like lap two. Turn-in stays sharp, the platform stays flat under trail-braking, and the car stops asking you to compensate with steering input you didn’t need on the out-lap.

About the Circuit Master coilover

Circuit Master sits at the top of XYZ Racing’s competition tier, alongside their Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally builds, and it has been developed and validated by XYZ race teams running internationally. The headline number is the 9720-way adjustment matrix, delivered through three separate damping knobs – a level of granularity aimed at engineers and drivers who want to tune compression and rebound behaviour as discrete inputs rather than as a single compromise.

A note from XYZ on the design: the three-knob layout uses small oil-passage geometry, which is what gives the damper its precision on smooth tarmac. Over genuinely large bumps you may hear a faint hydraulic noise as oil moves through those passages. This is normal and is a consequence of building a damper for circuit surfaces – the Circuit Master is engineered for the relatively flat, predictable surface of a race track, not for pothole work.
