XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — BMW 5 SERIES E39 4/6 CYL excl. Wagon 1995-2003

The E39 5 Series was tuned for motorway composure, not for crashing through a rutted forest stage – a two-tonne RWD saloon riding on a double-pivot front axle and BMW’s Z-axle multi-link rear. XYZ Racing’s Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built specifically to change that brief, adding extra front and rear stroke so the axles can follow broken ground instead of slamming into the bump stops.

This is the loose-surface spec in the Pro Racing line-up, aimed at rallycross and snow events rather than tarmac lap times. Fitted to the 4- and 6-cylinder E39 saloon, it turns a car built for the autobahn into one that can shrug off a gravel crest or a snow-packed hairpin without the suspension giving up halfway through the stage.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2003 BMW 5 Series E39

Longer-travel dampers front and rear mean the E39’s suspension can absorb a rally crest or ice-rutted lane without smashing through to the bump stops, keeping all four corners loaded and the car pointing where you steered it. The extended suspension oil and nitrogen gas volume matters on stage-length events: more fluid to work with means the shock has somewhere for heat to go before it fades, so damping stays consistent from the first corner of a stage to the last. Three external adjustment knobs let you tune compression and rebound separately for gravel, snow or a mixed-surface event, rather than living with one fixed rate for every condition. On a heavy RWD saloon like the 4/6-cylinder E39, that extra control over how the rear settles under power is the difference between a clean exit and a car that steps wide the moment the throttle goes down.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow as the rally and rallycross member of the Pro Racing family, built around the assumption that the road surface won’t stay flat. Both ends run extended damper travel, giving the axles a bigger buffer before they run out of stroke over compressions and landings. Internally, the shock body carries a larger volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than a tarmac-spec unit, which matters over stage distance: more fluid mass means the damper can shed heat before it starts to fade, so the car doesn’t go soft on the last few kilometres of a run. Damping is set via three external knobs, and because the valving uses a small-hole oil passage to control flow, you may hear a faint tick or chatter from the shock body over sharp bumps – that’s the valve doing its job, not a fault. It’s a set-up built to take repeated punishment on broken surfaces rather than chase a single fast lap on smooth tarmac.

Fitment for the BMW 5 Series E39 (1995-2003)

This kit is mapped to the BM22 chassis code, covering the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder E39 5 Series saloon built between 1995 and 2003. It’s specified for the saloon body only – E39 Touring (wagon) cars are excluded and use a different kit. Confirm your engine and bodystyle against your V5 before ordering, since M5 (V8) applications sit outside this fitment.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
