XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 Φ55 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2012-2020

The MK7 Golf’s multi-link rear axle was tuned from the factory around comfort-biased bushing and a wide range of trim weights, which is exactly what falls apart the moment you point a modified Golf down a closed tarmac stage. Compression events arrive fast and unpredictable on stage surfaces – broken edges, camber changes, mid-corner ruts – and the standard rear geometry wallows rather than resolving them. This kit replaces that rear-link compliance with a damper built specifically to handle repeated, violent impacts without the body pitching along with them.

For a car running the electronic damping system from 2012-2020, this fitment includes the cancellation kit for electronic damping, so the rear multi-link geometry stays correctly located and the factory adaptive-damper electronics are properly bypassed rather than left fighting a mechanical system they no longer control. That matters on a rally-prepped Golf: no conflicting damping signals, no warning lights, just a chassis that responds the way the new dampers intend.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF MK7

On stage, the biggest gain is body control through compression. Where the standard rear axle absorbs a big hit by letting the body follow it, this coilover holds the wheel to the road surface and keeps the chassis flat, so the next input – a turn-in, a crest, a change of camber – isn’t fighting residual pitch from the last one. Tarmac-stage settings also change how the Golf transfers load during trail-braking into a corner: the rear stays planted rather than stepping out under the multi-link’s natural compliance. Because the kit properly cancels the electronic damping inputs, there’s no mismatch between what the dampers are doing mechanically and what the car’s sensors expect to see, which on a modified MK7 avoids the erratic behaviour that half-integrated coilover installs are known for. The net effect is a Golf that holds its line and its ride height consistently from the first stage to the last, rather than degrading as the standard rear geometry gets overwhelmed.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line specifically for sealed-stage tarmac events, where the surface is technically smooth but riddled with broken edges, ridges and sudden bumps that punish a chassis at speed. The damper is calibrated to absorb the impact of that uneven pavement rather than transmit it into the body, and to soak up the jolt from bigger hits without letting the body kick back – which is what keeps the tyre loaded and gripping instead of skipping across the surface. That combination is what XYZ Racing describes as delivering vehicle stability so the car handles predictably at pace, rather than becoming a guessing game corner to corner. The settings in this line come directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme, carried over into a road-legal coilover rather than reinvented for retail. It’s a construction aimed squarely at stage-driving loads: rapid, repeated compression cycles rather than the occasional pothole a fast-road setup is designed around.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 with the Φ55 rear multi-link suspension, chassis code VO20-4-C, covering the 2012-2020 production span. It’s specified for the modified rear-integrated configuration and includes the cancellation kit for electronic damping, so it’s the correct spec for a MK7 that left the factory with adaptive dampers rather than passive rear units. Confirm your Golf uses this rear multi-link layout before ordering, as MK7 rear suspension specification varies by trim and market.
