XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Subaru FORESTER SJ 4WD 2012-2018

The Forester SJ’s raised ride height and symmetrical all-wheel-drive layout already put it closer to a rally weapon than most family crossovers, and that’s exactly the platform XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built to exploit. Fitted to the 2012-2018 Subaru Forester SJ 4WD, this coilover trades road-biased compliance for the long-travel, high-abuse spec that loose-surface competition actually demands.

Where a road or fast-road coilover is tuned around smooth Tarmac, this kit is built for the opposite: sandstone, snow, silt, washboard ruts and the compression events that would overwhelm a standard damper inside a single stage. It’s the Gravel Rally coilover in the range, not a detuned track kit repurposed for dirt.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2018 Subaru Forester SJ 4WD

Drop this coilover into a Forester SJ and the biggest change you’ll feel is how much travel is available before the chassis runs out of answers. The long stroke and long spring soak up chassis vibration from washboard and rock-strewn tracks that would otherwise hammer through the SJ’s factory struts, keeping the tyres following the ground instead of skipping across it. Because the inverted tube design copes with sandstone, snow and silt without losing damping consistency, the Forester’s symmetrical AWD system can put its power down through a full stage rather than fighting suspension that’s already given up. High-speed compressions from crest landings and rutted straights get absorbed rather than transmitted into the chassis, and the setup is built to bear the extreme cornering loads a boxer-engined SJ generates turning in hard on loose surfaces. The result is a Forester SJ that holds its line and its ride height through a full stage instead of degrading as the stage goes on.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally coilover specifically for rally and rallycross use, where surface conditions are the most punishing of any discipline the brand covers – the damper becomes the single most stressed part of the car. The internals use an inverted tube design that copes with the full spread of loose-surface conditions a stage can throw at it, from fine sand to packed snow to loose silt. Stroke length and spring length are both extended well beyond road-going spec, giving the damper the range to absorb chassis vibration and the aggressive hits that come from running hard over broken, bouncy ground at speed. That extra travel also has to cope with the extreme cornering loads a rally car generates when turning in on shifting grip levels. XYZ Racing didn’t set the spring rates on a bench alone – every rate in the range has been run and validated by a rally racing team, so the numbers reflect what survives a stage rather than what looks good on paper.

Fitment for the Subaru Forester SJ 4WD (2012-2018)

This kit is built specifically for the Subaru Forester SJ, chassis code SU03-1, covering 4WD models produced from 2012 to 2018. It’s matched to the SJ generation’s suspension geometry and symmetrical all-wheel-drive layout, so it installs without the compromises of a universal or cross-model damper.

What buyers also search for

  • Subaru Forester SJ owners running gravel stages need suspension built for the surface, not adapted from a road-going kit.
  • The Subaru Forester SJ 4WD coilover is set up to survive sandstone, snow and silt without losing damping consistency.
  • Long-travel gravel dampers for the Forester SJ handle high-speed compressions a factory strut can’t absorb.
  • This rally-spec coilover kit for the 2012-2018 Forester SJ 4WD carries spring rates validated by a rally racing team.

Every gravel stage is different, and so is every Forester SJ build – pick your spec below and configure the Gravel Rally coilover for your car.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
