The E34 525iX is the only factory all-wheel-drive 5 Series BMW ever built, and that permanent 36:64 front-to-rear torque split hangs extra driveline weight off an already nose-led straight-six. Loose-surface competition punishes that balance: weight transfer arrives slowly, and the standard dampers run out of travel and heat tolerance long before a stage or rallycross heat is over. The XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilovers exist for exactly that job.
This is the loose-surface, long-travel end of the XYZ Racing range, set up for gravel and snow rather than smooth tarmac. Longer shock travel front and rear gives the heavy E34 4WD room to absorb ruts and compressions while keeping the contact patch loaded, and three-way adjustment lets you re-valve the car as the surface shifts from packed snow to broken gravel.
What these coilovers do for your 1987-1995 BMW 5 Series E34 4WD
The extra travel is the headline change you will feel on the E34 4WD. Where the standard setup tops or bottoms out over a crested gravel road, these coilovers keep the wheel tracking the surface, so the all-wheel-drive system always has grip to send forward instead of a wheel hanging in the air. The enlarged oil and nitrogen volume keeps the damping consistent deep into a long stage, when a smaller shock would have faded and gone vague. Three adjustment knobs let you split the response to suit the heavy nose, firming the front against dive under braking while leaving the rear compliant enough to put power down on a slippery exit. The result is a 525iX that stays composed on exactly the surfaces a road-spec car would skate across.
About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover
The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow is XYZ Racing’s dedicated rally and rallycross damper, built around travel and thermal headroom rather than outright stiffness. Both front and rear units run a longer stroke than a tarmac coilover, opening up a bigger buffer zone so the car stays settled when it lands hard or crashes through a compression. To support that travel, each damper carries a larger volume of shock oil and nitrogen gas: more fluid and gas means the shock resists heat build-up, so the oil does not cook and the damping does not go off after sustained hard use. Adjustment runs through three separate knobs, giving independent control over how the car rides and reacts. One trait of the design is that the oil is routed through small passages, so over big hits you may hear a faint noise as fluid moves through – that is the valving working as intended, not a fault. It is a competition tool aimed at loose-surface stages and circuits, not a comfort-first road conversion.
Fitment for the BMW 5 Series E34 4WD (1987-1995)
This kit is specified for the all-wheel-drive E34 5 Series – the 525iX – across the full 1987 to 1995 production run. The 4WD designation matters here: the front strut and driveline packaging differ from the rear-drive E34, so this is the correct application for the AWD chassis rather than a shared rear-wheel-drive part. Confirm your car is the 4WD variant before configuring.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
OE (factory) mountOERetains the OEM (factory) upper mount — preserves the original ride comfort, noise and vibration behaviour for a stock-like feel.
