XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Subaru FORESTER SJ 4WD 2012-2018

The Forester SJ’s raised ride height and permanent symmetrical AWD make it one of the few Subarus built from the factory with genuine loose-surface intent, and the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is set up specifically for that brief. Where a circuit-only kit chases a lower stance and an immediate response off-centre, this set-up keeps wheel travel long enough front and rear to let the SJ’s suspension move with a rutted forest road or a snow-packed lane instead of crashing through it.

For anyone running a 2012-2018 Forester SJ 4WD on forestry tracks, winter routes or rally-style stages, that extra travel is what keeps the car settled when the surface stops being predictable. It is a coilover built around big hits arriving often, not occasionally.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2018 Subaru Forester SJ 4WD

Longer front and rear travel gives the SJ’s suspension a bigger buffer before it runs out of stroke, so ruts, washboard gravel and compressed snow get absorbed rather than transmitted straight into the chassis. A larger internal volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas spreads heat build-up over a longer stint, which matters on a Forester because sustained loose-surface driving loads the dampers continuously rather than in the short, sharp bursts of a tarmac lap. The 3-way adjustment lets you firm the rear up for a gravel stage one weekend and soften the front for deep snow the next, without swapping hardware. Given the SJ’s taller centre of gravity compared with a saloon or hatch, that adjustability also helps keep body movement in check when the AWD system is putting power down over a broken surface.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

This is a damper built primarily for rally and rallycross use rather than smooth-tarmac track days. The extended front and rear travel is the headline feature: it buys a bigger margin against big compressions so the car stays composed instead of bottoming out. Internally, XYZ Racing has increased the volume of both suspension oil and nitrogen gas over a standard road-going valve stack, which reduces the chance of the oil overheating and fading during long-term, high-load use on a stage or circuit. The 3 external adjustment knobs work through a small-orifice oil path, and on big compressions that narrow passage can produce a faint noise as oil moves through it – that is expected behaviour for this valving, not a defect. The whole unit is built around the assumption that hard hits are routine, so there is no need to back off when the going gets rough.

Fitment for the Subaru FORESTER SJ 4WD (2012-2018)

Built for the Subaru Forester SJ, chassis code SU03-1, in 4WD configuration across the 2012 to 2018 production run. Confirm your Forester matches this chassis code and drivetrain before ordering, as suspension geometry differs between SJ variants and earlier or later Forester generations.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
