XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Nissan 240/260/280 Z φ51 welding 1970-1978

The S30-generation 240Z, 260Z and 280Z were never built to accept a modern coilover cartridge. The factory strut tube is too narrow for a standard damper body, which is why this kit is supplied as a φ51 welding conversion – a 51mm sleeve welded into the original strut housing before the cartridge goes in, rather than a straight bolt-in unit.

Once fitted, this is a Pro Racing Gravel/Snow spec, built around longer front and rear travel than XYZ’s tarmac-biased lines. That extra stroke is there for loose-surface work – rally and rallycross stages where the road surface, not outright grip, dictates how the suspension has to behave.

What this coilover kit does for your 1970-1978 Nissan 240/260/280 Z

Longer front and rear travel gives the Z’s MacPherson strut front end and semi-trailing-arm rear more room to absorb ruts, compressions and mid-corner bumps before the damper tops or bottoms out – the difference between the car staying settled over a rough stage section and getting knocked off line. A larger internal reservoir of suspension oil and nitrogen gas keeps damping force consistent as the unit heats up over a long stage or extended session, rather than fading as the oil thins. The three external adjustment knobs let you set compression and rebound independently front and rear, so the car can be leaned toward stability on loose surfaces or sharpened up as grip changes through a route.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

This line is built specifically around rally and rallycross use rather than circuit driving. The extended travel front and rear is the headline change versus a tarmac-focused Pro Racing coilover, giving the chassis a bigger cushion before it runs out of suspension movement on rough or broken surfaces. XYZ Racing has increased the volume of both suspension oil and nitrogen gas inside the damper body, which slows the rate at which oil temperature climbs during sustained use – a real factor on longer stages where a smaller-capacity damper would start to fade. The three-knob adjustment system uses a small-oil-hole metering design; over large hits you may occasionally hear a faint noise as oil passes through the restricted passage, which is a normal characteristic of this valving rather than a fault. It’s a damper built to take repeated abuse from gravel, snow and mixed-surface driving without the internals overheating.

Fitment for the Nissan 240/260/280 Z (1970-1978)

Fits the S30-chassis 240Z, 260Z and 280Z built between 1970 and 1978, listed under XYZ Racing’s NI01 fitment code. Because the factory strut housing is narrower than a modern coilover cartridge, installation requires the supplied φ51 sleeve to be welded into the strut tube first – this is a welding-conversion kit, not a direct bolt-in, so factor in that step when planning fitment.

Fitment on an original S30 strut housing means the welding step matters as much as the spec sheet – configure yours below to get the right cartridge for your car.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
