XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Mitsubishi EVO4-6 4WD 1997-2001

The MT18-generation Evo’s 4WD transfer case and centre diff shuffle torque forward and back under load, and on a fast circuit lap that shuffle happens mid-corner, not just off the line. Soft factory-spec dampers let the chassis squat and roll through that transfer, costing you the front bite that makes an Evo IV-VI worth driving hard in the first place. The Circuit Master is built to hold the car flat while the diffs do their job.

For sustained lap-time work rather than the odd trackday, that distinction matters. A car doing session after session needs damping that doesn’t fade or wander off its setting by lap eight, and that’s the specific job this kit is set up to do on the Evo4-6 4WD.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2001 Mitsubishi EVO4-6 4WD

With 9720 combinations of damping adjustment on tap, you can set the front end firm enough to control nose-dive under trail braking while still letting the rear diff load progressively through the exit – rather than picking one compromise setting and living with it everywhere. The 3-knob layout means rebound and compression can be split apart instead of moving together, so you can chase understeer out of slow corners without upsetting how the car settles on faster direction changes. On a 4WD platform where weight transfer front-to-rear-to-front is constant, that separation is what lets you keep the centre diff’s torque split doing useful work instead of fighting body movement. Ride height goes on the same axis as damping control, so corner weights and front-to-rear rake can be set to match your specific circuit setup rather than left to fall wherever the springs settle.

About the Circuit Master coilover

XYZ Racing built the Circuit Master as its circuit-specific damper, sitting in the same range as its Racing Spec, Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally counterparts but tuned specifically for sustained lap work rather than a single fast pass. It’s the unit XYZ’s own racing teams run internationally, and the 9720-way adjustment range is there so a team can find a setting for a given track rather than running one compromise spec everywhere. Construction routes damping oil through a small-passage design behind the three external knobs, which is a deliberate trade-off: on bumpy circuit surfaces you may hear a faint noise as oil moves through the smaller passage under compression. That’s the damper working as designed, not a fault, and it’s a known characteristic of running fine-grained adjustability rather than a wider, quieter passage. The trade-off exists because the target use is track surfaces, where control matters more than isolating every ripple.

Built for the MT18 chassis code covering Evo IV, V and VI across 1997 to 2001, matched to the 4WD drivetrain layout these generations share. Confirm your car falls within this year span before ordering, since Evo chassis codes changed across the model’s life.
