XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Mitsubishi EVO4-6 4WD 1997-2001

The EVO4-6’s MT18 platform put a rally-honed four-wheel-drive system under a lightweight saloon body, and that combination is exactly why the standard dampers run out of ideas the moment the tarmac stops. Loose surfaces load the suspension in bursts rather than smoothly, and stock valving simply isn’t built to survive repeated big hits without the oil overheating.

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is XYZ Racing’s answer to that specific problem: a kit built around extended stroke length and a larger fluid reservoir, aimed at drivers who take their EVO4-6 off the black stuff and need the dampers to still be working properly two hours into a stage or a snow-covered pass.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2001 Mitsubishi EVO4-6 4WD

Extended front and rear travel gives the EVO4-6’s suspension more room to work before it bottoms out over compressions and washboard gravel, which keeps all four tyres loaded and the AWD system’s torque split doing its job rather than fighting an axle that’s already topped out. The larger internal oil and nitrogen gas capacity means the damper has more thermal mass to absorb, so a long stage or an extended snow run doesn’t cook the fluid and turn the ride soft and vague halfway through. Three external adjustment knobs let you retune compression and rebound between a fast gravel stage and a slower, technical snow section without pulling the dampers apart. On a car this light, keeping wheel control consistent as the surface changes is most of the battle, and that’s what the extra stroke and cooling capacity are there to buy you.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

This kit is built specifically for rally and rallycross use rather than circuit driving, which shows in the way XYZ Racing has specified it. Both the front and rear dampers get noticeably longer travel than a road or track coilover, giving the suspension a much bigger buffer before it runs out of stroke over crests, ruts and compressions. Inside, the damper carries a larger charge of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than a standard unit, which is the key to keeping oil temperature under control during sustained hard use – overheated fluid is what causes a damper to fade and lose consistency partway through a run. The three external adjustment knobs use a small-passage oil circuit, and on big hits that design can produce a faint noise as fluid moves through the restricted path; that’s a normal characteristic of this valving, not a fault. XYZ Racing built this coilover around the same repeatability it wants from a circuit damper, but applied it to loose-surface conditions, so the focus throughout is on the damper still behaving predictably after repeated abuse rather than on outright stiffness.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi EVO4-6 4WD (1997-2001)

This coilover kit is specified for the Mitsubishi EVO4-6 4WD, chassis code MT18, covering the 1997 to 2001 model years. It’s a direct fitment for the four-wheel-drive EVO4-6 platform across that generation span, so if your car falls within these years and chassis code, this kit is built to match your suspension mounting points and geometry.

If you’re building an EVO4-6 for stage work rather than the road, this is the coilover spec to start from – configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
