XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — BMW 7 SERIES E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR STRUT) 1995-2002

The E38 7 Series carries a lot of weight over a long wheelbase, and on loose surfaces that mass keeps travelling after the front wheel has already dropped into the next rut. XYZ Racing’s Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover replaces the factory air struts with a coil-over-damper unit built around longer front and rear travel, so the tyre stays working the ground instead of skipping across it.

For the V8 BM21-2 cars running conventional springs rather than the factory air suspension, that extra travel is the point. Snow, gravel and rally-cross surfaces move under the car constantly, and this kit is built to absorb that movement rather than transmit it straight into the cabin.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 BMW 7 Series E38 8-Cylinder (Non-Air-Strut)

Longer-travel front and rear dampers give the E38’s suspension more room to absorb compressions and ruts before the chassis feels them, which matters on a car this heavy when the surface underneath keeps changing. The increased suspension oil and nitrogen gas volume is there to manage heat: sustained gravel or snow stages that would otherwise cook a shorter-travel damper’s oil are exactly what this larger reservoir is designed to shrug off. Three external adjustment knobs let you retune compression and rebound as conditions change from packed snow to loose gravel, without pulling the dampers apart. On a nose-heavy, air-strut-delete 7 Series, that combination keeps the rear axle planted and the steering honest when the road surface stops being predictable.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

XYZ Racing built the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow line specifically for rally and rally-cross use, where the demands are different from tarmac circuit driving. Front and rear travel is extended over the tarmac-spec coilovers in the range, giving the suspension a bigger buffer before it runs out of stroke on compressions and landings. Inside, the damper carries a larger volume of suspension oil and nitrogen gas than a standard unit, which is the mechanism that keeps oil temperature under control across a long stage or a full day of loose-surface driving rather than letting it fade. Damping is adjustable across three external knobs, each metering oil through a small passage; on repeated big hits that passage can produce a faint noise under load, which is a function of the design rather than a fault. The result is a damper engineered to keep working when the surface underneath it won’t stay still.

Fitment for the BMW 7 Series E38 8-Cylinder (Non-Air-Strut) (1995-2002)

This kit is built for the BMW 7 Series E38, chassis code BM21-2, across the 1995 to 2002 production run for 8-cylinder cars that left the factory on conventional springs rather than air suspension. Confirm your car doesn’t carry the factory air-strut option before ordering, since this coilover is a direct fit only for the steel-spring E38.

For an E38 that spends its time on gravel, snow or rally stages rather than tarmac, the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow spec is the coilover built for that job. Configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
