The E38’s kerb weight is the first problem any 7 Series drift build has to solve. A V8 pushing close to two tonnes through the rear wheels, on a chassis drawn up for motorway comfort rather than holding an angle, will wallow the moment you ask it to do anything sideways. The Pro Racing Drift Spec coilover is built around that specific problem, giving the big BMW enough body control to hold a stabilised angle through a corner instead of rolling into it.
For competitive drifting that means managing weight transfer through initiation and the transition back out of the angle, on a car whose factory dampers were never asked to do this job. Drop the ride height with the correct bump stroke set up and the 7 Series finds a drift line few people expect from a 90s luxury saloon with a straight-eight cylinder count and a boot big enough for spare tyres.
What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 BMW 7 Series E38
Lowering the E38 on this kit tightens up the body control that a factory-height, factory-damped luxury saloon simply doesn’t have, cutting the roll and pitch that make holding an angle harder than it needs to be as the car loads and unloads through a slide. Three external adjustment knobs let you move between a setup for holding long, controlled drift angles and one that’s liveable on the road home, without swapping parts. Because the V8 (8 cyl) E38 carries so much weight over the nose, front-end control matters as much as the rear here – get the damping and ride height right and the car stops fighting you the moment the tail steps out. This is a set-up job, not a bolt-on-and-forget one: expect to spend time on ride height and damping before the car does what you actually want it to do at angle.
About the Pro Racing Drift Spec coilover
This is a coilover built specifically for drift racing rather than adapted from a road or fast-road design. The valving is tuned to stabilise the car’s body while it’s cornering at speed, so the chassis holds a clean, controllable angle instead of pitching around under load. Once the ride height is dropped and the bump stroke is set correctly, the difference in how the car controls a drift angle is immediately noticeable. Each damper uses three adjustment knobs built around a small-oil-hole internal design; on rough tarmac or circuit kerbing you may hear a faint noise as oil moves through that smaller passage. That’s expected behaviour for this internal design, not a fault, and it’s a trade-off this kit is built to make in exchange for the control it gives you on track.
Fitment for the Bmw 7 SERIES E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR Strut) (1995-2002)
Built for the BMW 7 Series E38, chassis code BM21-2, across the 1995 to 2002 production run. This fitment covers the V8 (8-cylinder) E38 variants running conventional strut suspension – cars fitted with factory self-levelling air suspension are excluded, so confirm your car’s suspension type before ordering.

Spec your BM21-2 E38 to the ride height and damping range this drift build needs – configure yours below.
Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Front
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Hardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
Rear
AluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
