XYZ Racing Super Sport Coilovers — BMW 7 SERIES E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR STRUT) 1995-2002

The E38’s factory air suspension is the first thing most owners replace once it starts sagging on one corner at 2am. This Super Sport kit converts the big V8 saloon over to a coil-over strut and gives you 36-way damping adjustment to compensate for the sheer mass this chassis carries – the 750i and 740i were never light cars, and worn factory air struts only make that weight harder to control.

For a car that spent its life as a limousine, the E38 can still be pointed at a B-road with real confidence once the suspension is sorted. This Super Sport coilover is built around fast-road use with the option to take it to a track day, rather than a full race setup, which matches how most E38 owners actually use the car.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2002 Bmw 7 Series E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR Strut)

Swapping out the air struts removes the leak-and-sag failure mode entirely and replaces it with a mechanical system you can actually tune. Ride height is adjustable, so you can drop the nose-heavy V8 front end to sharpen turn-in without dragging the front splitter on every driveway. The 36-way damping range means you can run the E38 firm enough to control body roll under load through a sweeping motorway on-ramp, then wind it back for the motorway cruising this car was originally designed for. Because the front end carries the bulk of the V8’s weight, dialling in more low-speed compression damping up front noticeably reduces the nose-dive under braking that these cars are known for. Rear damping adjustment lets you balance that against the back axle so the car doesn’t feel lopsided once the front is stiffened.

About the Super Sport coilover

The Super Sport is XYZ Racing’s fast-road damper, built to take the harshness out of poor road surfaces while still giving you enough adjustment range to firm things up for a track day. Ride height is adjustable independently of damping, so ride comfort and stance aren’t locked together. The 36-way adjustment covers a wide enough range that you can run it soft for daily motorway miles or stiffen it up for a weekend circuit session without swapping parts. It’s built as a dual-purpose damper rather than a dedicated race piece – the E38’s weight and this saloon’s role as a daily-driven big BMW make that the right compromise over a harder track-only setup.

Fitment for the Bmw 7 Series E38 8 CYL (NOT AIR Strut) (1995-2002)

This kit is specific to the E38-chassis 7 Series built between 1995 and 2002, covering the 8-cylinder (V8) variants fitted with conventional strut mounting rather than self-levelling air suspension. Confirm your car is the coil-strut version, not an air-strut model, before ordering.
