XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — Ford PROBE 1989-1992

Few late-eighties coupes take to long-travel rally hardware as readily as the first-generation Ford Probe. Sharing Mazda’s GD floorpan with the 626 and MX-6 and driving through its front wheels, the Probe was a tidy sealed-surface handler from the factory – this XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover re-tasks that chassis for the loose stuff.

Where a circuit setup chases low ride height and stiff control, this kit goes the other way: extended travel front and rear, a larger buffer zone before the bump stops, and the damping range to keep a Probe planted across gravel, snow and broken rallycross surfaces.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1992 Ford Probe

On a loose stage the Probe’s front-drive weight bias rewards a suspension that stays in contact with the surface, and that is exactly what the extra travel buys you. Bigger compression and rebound strokes let the wheels follow ruts and crests instead of skating over them, so the front axle keeps finding drive out of slow corners. The increased oil and nitrogen gas volume inside each damper resists the heat build-up that fades a shock late in a long run, holding consistent damping from the first corner to the last. Three separate adjustment knobs let you trim the car’s balance for surface and conditions, softening off for deep snow or firming up for hard-packed gravel. The result is a 1989-1992 Ford Probe that feels composed and predictable where a stiff tarmac setup would simply bounce.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built for rally and rallycross use, where surface and grip change by the metre. Its defining feature is travel: longer strokes front and rear create a bigger buffer distance that keeps the car stable when the suspension is working hard over jumps and compressions. Each damper carries a deliberately enlarged volume of shock oil and nitrogen gas, which spreads the thermal load and stops the oil overheating and losing its damping after sustained hard use. Adjustment comes through three knobs working a small-orifice valving design – over the biggest hits you may hear a faint noise as oil is forced through the small passage, which is normal for this construction and not a fault. It is a damper engineered around endurance and stability on loose ground rather than outright stiffness.

Fitment for the Ford Probe (1989-1992)

This kit is matched to the first-generation Ford Probe, chassis code FO16, covering the 1989 to 1992 model years. It is a direct-fit coilover for that platform – confirm your exact build below before configuring.

Set your ride height and damping to suit the surface, and build your XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover for the Ford Probe below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
