XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — Ford PROBE 1989-1992

The first-generation Ford Probe sits on Mazda’s GD-platform underpinnings, shared with the MX-6 and 626 – a transverse, front-drive coupe that carries most of its mass over the nose. The XYZ Racing Pro Rally coilover is built for the opposite of road-car refinement: top-flight rally competition on gravel and snow, where wheel travel, damper survival and predictable weight transfer matter far more than polished tarmac manners.

This is competition hardware for the 1989-1992 Probe, not a fast-road lowering kit. It is set up to keep a front-heavy coupe composed when the surface vanishes beneath it – long stroke to absorb ruts, crests and the occasional landing, damping that holds its character deep into a stage, and the ride-height latitude a rally car genuinely needs between events.

What these coilovers do for your 1989-1992 Ford Probe

On loose surfaces the Probe’s nose-led balance wants to wash wide under power, and a turbocharged GT only loads the front axle harder when the boost arrives. Rally-spec damping and increased travel help that front end find grip on gravel and snow rather than skating across the top of it, keeping the driven wheels working through ruts and compressions. Adjustable ride height lets you raise the car for rough gravel or drop it for faster, smoother stages, and the heavier-duty internals are designed to resist the fade that ruins a run over a long competitive section. The result is a front-drive coupe you can place with confidence when the road turns to dirt.

About the Pro Rally coilover

The Pro Rally is XYZ Racing’s gravel and snow competition suspension, engineered as a serious rally tool rather than a road kit with stiffer springs. It is offered in two distinct configurations to match how the car is prepared. The first is an amateur specification that bolts straight to the original chassis, so a standard-bodied Probe can be turned into a stage car without major fabrication. The second is a professional specification intended for a car with a modified body shell, where the suspension can be mounted to suit a fully prepped competition build. Both are aimed at the demands of loose-surface rallying – sustained abuse, big inputs, and the need for repeatable damper behaviour over the length of a stage.

Fitment for the Ford Probe (1989-1992)

This kit is matched to the first-generation Ford Probe, chassis code FO16, covering the 1989 to 1992 model years. Confirm your car falls inside that year span before ordering, and choose the configuration – direct-fit or modified-body – that reflects how your Probe is built.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
