XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Ford PROBE 1989-1992

The first-generation Ford Probe is an oddity in 2026 – a front-drive coupe built on Mazda GD underpinnings, with a long bonnet, soft factory damping, and a chassis that was never asked to corner hard on a closed road. Owners chasing tarmac stage pace know the standard setup runs out of body control the moment a crest meets a compression, and the front end washes wide on anything resembling a hairpin.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically for that problem. It is a sealed-stage tarmac rally damper – not a fast-road kit pressed into rally duty – tuned around the spring rates and damping curves XYZ Racing’s own tarmac programme has settled on over years of stage running.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1992 Ford Probe

Tarmac rally damping is a different discipline from circuit damping. Stage surfaces alternate broken asphalt, drainage covers, kerbs taken on the inside line, and crests that fully unload the suspension between corners. This coilover is engineered to absorb that succession of impacts without packing down, keeping the Probe’s front tyres planted through the compression that follows each hit. The result on a 1989-1992 Probe is a car that finally rotates on throttle, holds a line over mid-corner bumps, and stops diving onto its nose every time you brake into a tightening radius. Tyre temperature stays more consistent across a stage because the contact patch is no longer being thrown off the road by every imperfection.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

This is a damper designed end-to-end around sealed-stage tarmac use. It is calibrated to absorb the impact of uneven pavement and to soak up the jolt when the car crosses a big bump, suppressing body movement and protecting the contact patch so the tyre keeps generating traction through the hit. Vehicle stability is the priority – the coilover is set up so the chassis stays composed, predictable, and on the driver’s chosen line through high-load transitions. Every spring rate, valving choice and ride-height window in the Tarmac Rally specification is drawn from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally racing experience, not extrapolated from a road kit. That experience-led baseline is the difference between a coilover that survives a stage and one that wins on one.

Fitment for the Ford Probe (1989-1992)

This kit is specified for the first-generation Ford Probe, chassis code FO16, model years 1989 through 1992. Confirm your chassis code and year before configuring – the first-gen Probe shares its platform with the Mazda GD but uses Ford-specific pickup points, and the Tarmac Rally coilover is tuned for that exact application.
