XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2005-2011

The 997’s rear-engine architecture gives it a natural advantage on loose surfaces – weight over the driven axle means traction where a mid-engine car would lose it – but PASM, Porsche’s factory electronic damping management, was calibrated entirely for tarmac. On gravel, snow, or silt, it reads the road incorrectly and fights the suspension every time it does. These XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilovers replace the standard dampers and include a cancellation kit to deactivate the PASM electronics, leaving the new hardware to operate without interference.

The philosophy shift between a tarmac coilover and a gravel-stage unit is substantial. On a loose-surface special, long stroke travel and controlled spring movement matter more than precise rebound targeting; the 997 needs to absorb sustained compression from broken ground while keeping its nose tracked on corner entry.

What this coilover does for your 2005-2011 Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S

Inverted-tube damper construction keeps the damper body rigid under lateral load – important on a rear-engine platform where chassis flex translates directly into rear-axle feedback. The extended stroke travel in this Gravel Rally specification handles the kind of sustained compression the 997’s production units were never designed for: fast crests, mid-corner ruts, and the aggressive landing loads of loose-surface competition. At the front MacPherson end, the long-travel setup prevents the nose washing under hard braking on loose ground – a moment that costs time and, in competition, considerably more. Spring rates across the kit were validated in actual rally racing use, not on a static test rig.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This coilover line was developed specifically for rally racing and rallycross, the most demanding loose-surface disciplines in motorsport. Inverted-tube construction places the damper body above the piston rod, increasing structural rigidity while reducing the unsprung mass that matters most on broken terrain. Spring and stroke lengths are calibrated for three fundamentally different surface types – sandstone, snow, and silt – each of which loads a damper in its own way and demands travel range well beyond any tarmac application. Spring rate settings were tested and signed off by rally racing teams in active competition, not derived from computer simulation alone. The PASM cancellation kit bundled with this 997 fitment disconnects the electronic damping diagnostic loop, preventing fault codes from appearing when the sensors find no signal to read.

Fitment for the Porsche 997 CARRERA-2/S (2005-2011)

Under chassis code PO04-C, this kit covers the 997 Carrera 2 and Carrera S across both the 997.1 (2005-2008) and 997.2 (2009-2011) generations. The cancellation kit is integral to this specification – PASM-equipped 997s will generate persistent suspension fault codes without it, and the dampers cannot operate as intended with the factory electronics still active.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball top mountPillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
