XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — Porsche 964 CARRERA-2 1991-1994

Around sixty per cent of a 964 Carrera 2’s mass sits behind the rear axle. That rear-biased pendulum effect defines what makes this 911 generation so expressive at competition angles – and so unforgiving when the suspension geometry isn’t set up to work with it. The XYZ Racing Drift Spec coilover for the Porsche 964 Carrera-2 addresses that dynamic directly, built from the ground up for competitive drifting rather than adapted from a road-biased design.

The Carrera 2’s multi-link rear suspension – a significant departure from the semi-trailing arms of earlier 911 generations – is sensitive to ride height and bump stroke in ways a simpler rear axle is not. Pitch the ride height too low without managing the bump stroke correctly and you either run out of travel under load or compromise the geometry at competition angles. The Drift Spec’s setup is engineered around exactly those demands.

What this coilover does for your 1991-1994 Porsche 964 Carrera-2

The primary gain is body control through high-speed directional changes – where the 964’s weight distribution becomes an asset rather than a liability. A properly loaded Carrera 2 in a sustained drift will use that rear engine mass to maintain angle without the driver fighting for it; the Drift Spec’s damping is calibrated to stabilise the bodyshell through exactly those sequences. Ride height reduction, combined with the Drift Spec’s bump stroke management, lowers the centre of gravity and reshapes how the chassis responds to lateral load transfer – the difference between a car that steps out controllably and one that snapbacks without warning. Rotation from initial flick-in becomes more predictable, and angle through a sequence more consistent.

About the Drift Spec coilover

Built specifically for drift racing rather than repurposed from a fast-road or track-day brief, the XYZ Racing Drift Spec coilover is engineered around the demands of high-speed turning and sustained competition angles. The design brief is body stabilisation: lower the ride height with proper bump stroke management, and in doing so shift the handling balance into a window where the driver controls angle rather than reacts to it. XYZ Racing’s approach for this type centres on dynamic compliance under competitive loads – not the static stiffness of a circuit spring rate, but a setup that keeps a drifting car readable when the chassis is working at extreme rotation. The Drift Spec is XYZ Racing’s dedicated competition drift fitment, developed for rear-wheel-drive platforms where angle, body control, and driver feedback are the primary performance objectives.

Fitment for the Porsche 964 Carrera-2 (1991-1994)

This kit covers the Porsche 964 Carrera-2 on chassis code PO10, spanning the 1991 to 1994 production years. The Carrera-2 designation confirms rear-wheel drive – distinguishing this fitment from the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 of the same generation. Confirm your build year and body variant against the XYZ Racing fitment specification before ordering.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball top mountPillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
