XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Porsche 964 CARRERA-2 1991-1994

Sixty percent of a 964 Carrera-2’s weight sits over the rear wheels, and that rear bias defines everything about how this car responds to suspension changes. Rates that settle a front-engined car will affect a 964 in entirely different ways – stiffen the rear too aggressively and the flat-six hanging behind the axle line turns trail-braking into a white-knuckle exercise; run it too soft and squat under hard acceleration undermines the traction you need on corner exit. The Racing Spec coilover kit is built specifically for track and time-attack use, and its damper settings were developed through direct participation in racing events including the WTCC – engineers working with the same rear-engined weight distribution challenge that defines this chassis.

The 964 was the generation where Porsche finally moved the front suspension to a proper coil-spring MacPherson arrangement, replacing the torsion bars that had defined every previous 911. That makes it a more workable platform for serious suspension development than its predecessors, and the Racing Spec is built to that architecture’s strengths.

What this coilover does for your 1991-1994 Porsche 964 CARRERA-2

With the 964 Carrera-2’s rear-engined layout, front-end grip under braking and at corner entry is critical: insufficient front compression resistance lets the nose float, killing steering response at precisely the moment you need it most. The Racing Spec damper calibration addresses this balance directly, with settings developed for the 964’s specific axle loads rather than mapped across from a generic sports car template. Ride height adjustment allows meaningful lowering to reduce the 964’s relatively high centre of gravity – a genuine handling gain on faster circuits – while spring rates are matched to the platform’s rear weight bias. Damping specification is race-level, intended for adjustment between sessions as circuit conditions and tyre compound change.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec damper is configured exclusively for track race use – this is not a road-and-track crossover product. Every setting in this kit was derived from direct participation in competitive events including the World Touring Car Championship, where engineers worked alongside race teams to establish damper maps against real circuit data. For 964s running aggressive specification – builds equivalent to factory race vehicles or A-class competition cars – full custom damper assemblies are available. That process requires detailed information on your upgraded components and the specific circuits you are running, and XYZ Racing will manufacture to your exact brief. The Racing Spec sits at the top of the XYZ Racing coilover hierarchy: correct for competitive track days, club racing, and time-attack campaigns, not for a car that also covers road miles.

Fitment for the Porsche 964 CARRERA-2 (1991-1994)

This kit covers the Porsche 964 Carrera-2 (chassis reference PO10) for the 1991 to 1994 model years. The Carrera-2 designation denotes the rear-wheel drive variant of the 964 range. Confirm your chassis code against your VIN or registration document before ordering, as this fitment is distinct from the Carrera-4 all-wheel drive platform.
